ROLLING STONES  "hot rocks: 64-71", cd 1971

double disk compilation.
love probably half of it, can take or leave the rest.
Wiki says its their biggest selling album clocking in around 9 million sales from the stats.
yup, theyve made some good singles but i still think theyre an overrated band.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave of theirs:

Back to basics for me today. What a relief!

Brilliant album - so good to listen to. The whole shebang (1987 version) - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lNCAUSEhegqjQAMMocw1QFu9G-bE4zeTM

I Robot today ...

Another good one, although TOMAI still beats it IMHO. Love the voice on this track ... "Some Other Time"  ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW2e4tpOBGA

... and because this is how listening goes - on to Steve Harley. He sings a track on I Robot, hence the choice - wondered what he was up to and found that he released an album in February of this year, Uncovered.

Full of some of my favourite strings - it's a strangely endearing album of what he prefers to call interpretations along with four of his own songs, or songs he's co-written. Acoustic and unplugged, he laid down the vocals in a day and a half and there is no equalization - from Wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncovered_(Steve_Harley_album) ...

"We went in with the best acoustic instruments money can buy, the best microphones, the best studio, the best recording equipment, the best musicians and the best engineer. Now I've got all that going for me, why would I let [the engineer] meddle? I wanted it to sound like I'm in your living room when you play it through your speakers. The voice is up front and everything around me is as if we were playing in your house. No effects. It's as organic and natural as a recording could possibly be, I'm really proud of that. My engineer Matt Butler is the man who made it sound so fabulous."

Don't know a whole lot about Mr Harley and/or Cockney Rebel, other than his most popular songs. Anyone else? I know he has been associated with a few fine musicians and seems to have a certain cachet. Love his take on this traditional song - lyrics by Robbie Burns ...

RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-09-2020

i only know a handful of cockney Rebel songs, never heard an album in full so im as in the dark as you are Ruby

RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 16-09-2020

Continuing my Alan Parsons Project week, in chronological order – Pyramid – the first LP I ever bought – for a whole ZAR5. I loved it then and love it still. The allure of ancient Egypt and the mysteries of the pyramids was irresistible – I think every note is deeply embedded in my psyche. It should really be heard as a whole, and the first three tracks belong together, but I can’t find a clip without ads in between so this will have to do!

RE: What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 17-09-2020

I went to a party in Cape Town many moons ago and the hostess did up a section of her living room in an Egyptian-styled theme. I gave her a copy of 'Pyramid' to help set the mood.

PEARL JAM  "vitalogy" cd, 1994

their third of eleven.
my first and only apart from a compilation.
hearing punk on this one as well as grunge.
just sounds disjointed, clumsy, murky and messy overall.
a great 'singles' band IMO, never went back for another album though.
only saving grace is Eddie's vocals.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

URIAH HEEP "demons and wizards"

recommendation from Jerome...
okay i listened via Spotify.
first up, all these bands that used to be called "metal/heavy metal", theyre no heavier than most of the alt-rock bands
going aroind today, infact, the Beatles "revolution" and especially "helter skelter" are far heavier than these bands.
back to the album.
really liked the first four tracks, the wizard, traveller in time, easy livin', poets justice.
wasnt overly enthralled with the next four, circle of hands, rainbow demon, all my life, paradise.
album picked up again for the final track though, the spell.
overall, a half decent album, enough so that i will explore their back catalogue a bit further.

favourite on a first up listen:
