What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 11-02-2012 Tetterettet-ICP Orchestra One of the most interesting free jazz pieces I've ever heard, incredibly sporadic and playful What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 15-02-2012 Baby Breeze-Chet Baker Not a big fan of vocal jazz ,but throw in some fuglehorn and I'm down What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-02-2012 ![]() WILLIE NELSON "stardust" cd 1978. Willies twenty-fifth album and by far his most successful, pretty much bought him some international recognition for a couple of years. Willie recieved a Grammy for "Georgia On My Mind" for 'best male country vocal performance' in 1979. this is also by far my favourite Willie studio album, was also the first one i ever heard at age 11...loved it then and still do. only one track on here that i dont like in his terrible cover of "unchained melody"...whatever possessed him to cover this track as he has appears lost doing it. much prefer him doing country, blues and jazz songs. all-up, a very good album featuring some of his finest recording efforts. allmusic rate this a perfect 5/5(3.0)...which acording to the pros over there is his best album. Counted among his fans were Frank and Perry. Discovered in the late 40's after an appearance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts show. And people think American Idol started that. Vic won that competition and Milton Berle happened to be backstage pulling some strings to get Vic his first recording deal, with Mercury Records. This best of set compiles 25 of his charted records during that four year period with the label. His first release of I Have But One Heart went to #7 and he was on his way. Only one #1 showing on here with You're Breaking My Heart, but many top tens. Best for me is My Heart Cries For You for which there is no clip. It went to #4 for Vic in 1950 and was also a hit for Al Martino. I'll take either version. Vic went on to record for other labels, but this set just covers those early years. His last charting record shows as 1969, but the man is still kicking at 84. His playing is incredibly abstract and features uses of silence. Although his work is quite challenging, I find a lot of it to be pretty amazing. This, however, is just to minimal. I really am bothered that I can't get into this, it just seems like nothing of interest is really happening |
