RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 08-02-2020

Genesis - Foxtrot and Wind and Wuthering to be followed by A Trick of the Tail. That ought to suffice as a Genesis fix for a while! Or maybe not?? Might need more.

Pre and post Gabriel, I've enjoyed listening to these - especially "Supper's Ready" from Foxtrot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szJq1lwnkNw, and a couple from Wind and Wuthering (Tony Banks seems to have been quite busy on this one) - always a pleasure to hear ATOTT, so happy days!

RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 09-02-2020

Bumped offline by loadshedding as I was about to post. Admittedly, I knew it was coming, cutting it a bit fine, as usual! Big Grin

Listening to Gerry Rafferty’s North & South which is nothing short of brilliant (one song excepted which doesn't speak to me, but probably does to others). Immensely talented man, and a highly complex character. For someone who wasn't that great with people, he had an amazing understanding of the human condition. Songwriting really is a gift and he had what it takes in absolute spades. I suppose this was how he communicated most effectively. Incidentally, speaking of communications, the record cover is one of the first to include an email address – released in 1988.

The first couple of tracks on the album make such an impression, it’s sometimes easy to overlook the second half which would be a mistake ... one of those is this …. “Shipyard Town” … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou_1HV0OFF4

The opener and title track which is fab ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLxPEj0kxQs

My favourite from this album though - doesn't change ...

^^
I don't own that album but my parents do
I remember liking it when they played it to me years ago.

Performed from one side of the planet to the other this to my ears is still blues.

This has me again wondering why Stevie Nicks described herself a ‘Only a rock and roll singer’ when she’s so obviously more. The comments on the Youtube link for this are interesting to say the least. Oddly this is described as ’the rough version’ when it’s so much better than the eventual release.

with the way she admits she used to take her coke (and I don't mean the drink) through customs to avoid detection back in the day she could also describe herself as a drug smuggler

This is the track that turned me onto blues some years ago and I still haven’t recovered.

Often the case on Youtube, this is more for oggling at than listening.
A bit of high camp but if you watch closely some of the boys are desperately trying to look straight. They don’t fool me.

This little number always gets to me . I had a very similar experience in the middle of the West Australian desert a long long time ago. Never saw him again and still dream about that night. Sigh,Wilt, Swoon !
Strangly I’ve only just noticed how spot on the acting is in this clip.

Maybe so but when in Melbourne she had any number of admirers happy to give it to her for free.
Anyhow, what is your point? If we’re realistic a high percentage of rock musicians over the decades have been drug smugglers.

Ooh nice one!  My favorite major bluesman is Howling Wolf.  Love that guy.

This is what is on in my house right now:
