#318 - Everly Brothers - Wake Up Little Susie - 1957

running recap for me - 3's=106, 2's=64, 1's=10
this one - ***
from the album: The Everly Brothers
Written by Felice Bryant, Boudleaux Bryant
Produced by Archie Bleyer
Chart action: #1 US, #2 UK, #1 Canada, #3 Australia

the players:
Phil Everly - guitar, vocal
Don Everly - guitar, vocal

Banned in Boston on it's release, lol. I don't know, suggestive lyrics is what it says. Good Lord
people, they fall asleep at the drive-in. Great song anyway, as were the Everly's. Hit the top on the
country chart also. This was Simon & Garfunkel's last charting single in 1981 when it got to #27. It
was the second single from the Everly's first studio album. Columbia had dropped them after one single
and Roy Acuff steered them to Cadence Records where they had their greatest chart success. Inducted
into the R&R Hall Of Fame in 1986.

Lyrics

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
We’ve both been sound asleep, wake up, little Susie, and weep
The movie’s over, it’s four o’clock, and we’re in trouble deep
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa
Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say “ooh-la-la”
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

I told your mama that you’d be in by ten
Well Susie baby looks like we goofed again
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, we gotta go home

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
The movie wasn’t so hot, it didn’t have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa
Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say “ooh-la-la”
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie

#317 - Black Sabbath - Iron Man - 1971

running recap for me - 3's=106, 2's=65, 1's=10
this one - **
from the album: Paranoid
Written by Black Sabbath
Produced by Roger Bain
Chart action: #52 US

the players:
Ozzy Osbourne – vocals
Tony Iommi – lead guitar
Geezer Butler – bass guitar
Bill Ward – drums

Can't say I love it. About the only metal I love consistently is Zeppelin. It is a good song though, and their signature tune I suspect. From
their second album. Often mistaken as a connection to the Marvel superhero character and used in the 2008 Iron Man film, it was originaly titled
Iron Bloke (too British I guess). The beginning of the song with the distorted vocal was achieved by Ozzy singing behind a fan. It was not
released as a single in the UK. In 2000, thirty years after it's debut, a live version of the song won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance.

Lyrics

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
why should we even care?

He was turned to steel
in the great magnetic field
When he travelled time
for the future of mankind

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
that he will soon unfurl

Now the time is here
for Iron Man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron Man lives again!

Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-10-2013

"*" for me...i sinply dont like these guys whatsoever...i do own the "paranoid" album and only like two maybe three tracks off it...

Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 28-10-2013

A classic heavy rock song is Iron Man!!!!

Looking Back At Some Classics - TraceNspace - 29-10-2013

Love The Everly Brothers! I like Black Sabbath too but Iron Man is not my favorite.

Looking Back At Some Classics - Jerome - 29-10-2013

The only Sabbath album I can stand for any length of time these days is Technical Ecstasy. Really like that one. 'Sabotage' is a close second. The rest you can keep.

I'm kinda with Iron Horse. Never been a fan of Sabbath.

Wanna know the real irony?

Paranoid was the first album I ever owned.
