CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:Russ Ballard wrote two tracks on Peter Criss' third solo album "let me rock you" from 1982/83-ish....

I listened to Argent's "God gave rock and roll to you"....
I still prefer the 1989 version from KISS with Gene and Paul trading off lines,
KISS' version, incidently, became their biggest worldwide hit reaching top10 in at least a dozen countries...
I had no idea Ballard wrote "new York groove", but ive heard the original....
Ace Frehley took it to another level totally on his 1978 solo album "kiss" IMO...

I stand corrected on the Criss albums CH. Sorry - I had no idea he'd made a good few!

As an Argent fan, of course I'm sticking with them, but as usual, it's all subjective.

Happy Birthday to Keith Emerson. He is 71 today – born in Yorkshire, England. Allmusic has this to say about him – “Throughout his career with the Nice, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and as a solo artist, Keith Emerson has proven himself perhaps the greatest, most technically accomplished keyboardist in rock history.”

From Trilogy – “The Endless Enigma” - [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBYPae7sd3k"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBYPae7sd3k

His fabulous “Piano Concerto No 1” from Works Volume 1 and showcasing his ability as a composer very nicely, IMHO - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IIKrbVy4w8

no problem Ruby, you can only post what Wiki tells you(if you don't know, and ive made mistakes...plenty of them in fact!)

im not an Argent fan so I cant comment on those but....
im a pretty big KISS fan so I can answer when it comes to those guys...

Peter Criss has made five solo albums from memory...
the first one from 1978 entitled "kiss" is IMO the best solo album from the four members who released them simultaneously...
his 1981 album, the first one he made after he left KISS entitled "out of control" is also brilliant IMO...
then theres the other three that I know of, terrible pieces of work, only a couple of half decent tracks on each.

1954: Stuart Goddard:

who, you may well ask????
Adam Ant....
Adam And The Ants had a string of top ten hits(and 2 UK #1 hits) in the early 1980s,
they were a bit of a rarity in the music world(pop world) as the band had two drummers at the same time, giving them
that heavy tribal drum beat sound that was distinctively theirs...
Adam Ant went on to have a reasonably good career as a solo singer in the 1980s and through the 1990s also...
I didn't know that no singles with the Ants made the US charts, but several of his solo singles did, strange indeed!
he has been plagued with depression and has spent time in psychiatric hospitals in the UK over the years...
he managed a top30 hit album a couple of years ago in the UK and is, from all accounts, due to release one early next year...
I was a big fan back in the day, I have three Ants albums, three of Adam's solo albums(all on vinyl and only one on cd), and
numerous 7" vinyl singles...
some of their singles still stand up today IMO.
their videos were always colourful and entertaining, much like Culture Club, and no one sounded like them, and still don't!
two spring to mind to post here, both are what I would call 1980s classics, i'll post one here
and one in the "track im listening to...)

John Barry Prendergast OBE, or as he was more simply known, John Barry, was born on this day in 1933 - he died in January 2011. He was a composer of film scores (86 of them!!!) and Bond themes (a mere 12 of those) amongst many other musical projects, and was responsible for several of the most beautiful soundtracks ever. Two that stand out for me are Out of Africa and Dances with Wolves, both of which won Academy Awards for Best Original Score.

1954: Chris Difford:
that makes him 61....
lead vocalist for UK band Squeeze(or as they were known outside the UK: UK Squeeze)...
had several hits in the UK around 1980ish,
they only ever had one international hit, Cool For Cats, which is IMO, a classic single from that period of music...
as a footnote:
Jools Holland was their keyboardist(fir anyone who cares!)

1959: Bryan Adams:
Canadian guitarist, singer, songwriter, first UK single 'Run To You', 1985 UK No.11. 1991 UK & US No.1 single '(Everything I Do)', I Do It For You', 16 weeks UK No.1, plus over 15 other UK Top 40 singles and 3 UK No.1 albums).
ive seen Bryan in concert on two occasions, he is a brilliant live performer IMO, a true rocker...
