RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 30-11-2019 Looked up Jonas Fjeld as a result of listening to his collaboration with Judy Collins, and to my surprise found this - one of the two albums he made with Rick Danko of The Band and Eric Andersen. Haven't listened to the whole thing yet but really like this track ... (one Knut Reiersrud could give MK a run for his money IMHO! Lovely tone.) ... All of them doing one of Eric Andersen's tracks - "Blue River" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OSpytQWaus RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 09-12-2019 Crosby, Stills & Nash – Daylight Again A panacea – the songs on this album are such familiar favourites. Making hay while the lights are on! Not a whole lot of Croz (he was otherwise pre-occupied with dodgy substances) but what there is must surely be the best song on the album, by some distance – the sublime “Delta”. Apparently, Jackson Brown coerced him into finishing it or it might not have happened at all – perish the thought!
Bolstered by a few notables who made their way onto the personnel list ... Dean Parks, Leland Sklar, Timothy B Schmit, Danny Kortchmar, Jeff Porcaro, and so on! Many other choices, “Southern Cross”, “Wasted on the Way”, “Song for Susan”, etc., and Nash is a consistent force behind it all, but so is Stephen Stills and I think he acquits himself very nicely on the title track which he wrote (co-vocals by Art Garfunkel) …. Cleverly and carefully done - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILeV_0GiUBY
RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 15-12-2019 ^Oops - apologies Mr Browne. Crack the Sky - Crack the Sky. Their debut album from 1975. Prog rock band large unknown outside of Baltimore, apparently. No idea how the album will pan out - still listening - this is track number three and it's pretty earcatching IMHO ... RE: What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 17-12-2019 I like it. And as for the 'Daylight Again' album - my favourite of theirs. Love the last track on the album. https://youtu.be/byQho-z5zxk Who writes stuff like this anymore. In the mood for this today - https://youtu.be/7hssuv2KaaM Never even knew this one existed - https://youtu.be/1QBRwj3kzno RE: What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 18-12-2019 I just get completely lost in this music - takes me to a different place - stunning - https://youtu.be/QFlcs8vwLK4 Magnificent stuff - https://youtu.be/PU1KgMB3nmY RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 21-12-2019 ^Love Lee Clayton's Naked Child. I have listened to three albums today - all bands from the 70's - none of whom I've heard before and none of whom were particularly long lived which probably explains their relative obscurity. First up - Australia's first symphonic rock band (apparently) named Sebastien Hardie and their album Four Moments released in 1975. It's easy to spot the influences - Camel, Pink Floyd, Genesis, King Crimson, etc., and it was quite listenable. They recorded three albums from what I can tell, between 1973 and 1977 - this one was the most highly regarded. The guitarist, Mario Millo, was 20 at the time of this recording which is quite interesting - also responsible for vocals and mandolin. Hearing The Snow Goose all over this track ... RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 21-12-2019 Next ... from Quebec - Harmonium - Les Cinq Saisons (The Five Seasons) - also 1975.- A concept album based on the four seasons and the question of whether we might need a fifth season?? It's prog folk/rock and the lyrics are sung in French. Coincidentally, another three album outfit - this is their second. Widely lauded as a jewel in the proggy crown. No drums on the album - beautiful music, great harmonies a nice heavy metal instrument and another rather unusual one, an Ondes Martenot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ondes_Martenot - going on the wishlist. The imaginary fifth season - "Histoires Sans Paroles" RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 21-12-2019 Last one for today - Morning - Morning (which makes looking them and it up rather complicated!). ![]() They made only two albums, this was the debut - released in 1970. Folk/psychedelic rock, I preferred some tracks over others but on the whole, also a decent listen. No idea what happened to them - they certainly seemed to have had potential - sort of similar to CSN in places. MH - do you know anything about this band? Or any of the others? Sounds like a whole jam session going on in the middle of this one, lol ... RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-12-2019 never heard of them but I remember seeing that album cover somewhere because it looks familiar?? after some investigative time: that album has been reissued on cd, the review: http://therisingstorm.net/morning-morning/ a longwinded essay on the band which I admit I haven't read yet: http://www.nickwarburton.com/wordpress/?cat=13 BTW, like the linked track, gorgeous harmonising and, have you got both or both of their albums Ruby?? RE: What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 24-12-2019 What it's all about - https://youtu.be/KwwckZbrXck |
