Born on this day ... - Ruby - 29-10-2015 Happy Birthday to Lee Clayton who is 73 today. He was born Billy Shotts in Russellville, Alabama, USA. Iâve never understood why he disappeared off the music scene, or why he hasnât gained greater recognition, unless he really peeved some people somewhere along the line; he was quite vocal about certain issues and his music is referred to as âoutlaw countryâ. On the other hand â he didnât really have a great voice, technically speaking, which doesnât make any difference at all to my enjoyment of his music, which I love; his Naked Child has to be one of my favourite albums of all time (JJ Cale is on it, they have a similar sound â Claytonâs is rockier IMHO). The instrumentation on "Jaded Virgin" is fab - no samples available I'm afraid. He wrote âLadies Love Outlawsâ which became a hit for Waylon Jennings and a couple of artists have covered some of his other songs, âSilver Stallionâ, for example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtnOluEg90c . Itâs not easy to find clips so this is a selection from those available that I like most ⦠âLike a Diamondâ, originally from Border Affair â this is on the live album Another Night - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naWlAumk1J0 âIndustryâ from The Dream Goes On â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H3tXeUwX_Y â10 000 Years Sexual Moonâ from Naked Child - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LxFSo3r3do âI Love Youâ from Naked Child - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOFOfE8joVo And yet another from Naked Child â Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-10-2015

1939,Grace Slick: that would make her 77 if my mathematics is what it should be! vocalist for Jefferson Airplane, Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship from psychedelic rock through to straight out pop she and her band have done it all and achieved success under those different band names over several decades... I have a couple of compilations, one from Jefferson Airplane/Airplane and another from Jefferson Starship/Starship.... I prefer the early one.... I guess this is the one that she is most known for:

Born on this day ... - Ruby - 30-10-2015 Timothy B Schmit was born on this day in 1947, in Oakland, California. He was with Poco for a while before joining the Eagles and has also put out a fair body of solo work. Heâs credited on the work of a number of musicians/bands ranging from Firefall to Ringo Starr and Steely Dan. He plays the bass guitar, mostly, but is quite at home on an acoustic, and he sings. With the Eagles â lead vocal on âLove Will Keep Us Aliveâ â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLTgzp4tp28 From his solo album Expando, with Graham Nash supplying harmony - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9MtAgjW66Q And from Poco days â he both wrote and took lead vocal on âKeep on Tryinââ â Born on this day ... - Ruby - 31-10-2015 Russ Ballard was born on this day in 1945 in Hertfordshire, England. He first came to prominence when he joined Argent and wrote âGod Gave Rock n Roll to Youâ which became a hit not only for them, but for KISS as well. Ace Frehley went on to record Ballardâs âNew York Grooveâ to some acclaim and he also wrote two of the songs on Peter Crissâs solo album. He has a great rock voice and was incredibly adept at, and well suited to that seventies power ballad/anthemic type of thing. His album At The Third Stroke is still listenable, despite being a bit OTT at times â but hey â it was 1978 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaFMZUV6k4g. He released an album this year titled It's Good to be Here, which I haven't heard at all ... yet. He always was a good guitarist too, however, at least up until now, is probably more notable for his songwriting skills which seem to have proven fortuitous, indeed, for many other artists. He wrote Rainbowâs âSince You Been Goneâ, and âI Surrenderâ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ29pVhsdMs Rescued Americaâs flagging career with âYou can do Magicâ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb8Sa0jp7Pw And hereâs that Argent track â Born on this day ... - Music Head - 31-10-2015 I wish that I could write like Ruby Born on this day ... - Music Head - 31-10-2015 Tom Paxton - born on this day in 1939 in Chicago that would make him 76 folkie that achieved little success but his peers are well aware love this one which was covered by dozens Born on this day ... - Jerome - 31-10-2015 Music Head Wrote:I wish that I could write like Ruby Very few can.................she reminds me of someone back in Cape Town. Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 31-10-2015 Russ Ballard wrote two tracks on Peter Criss' third solo album "let me rock you" from 1982/83-ish.... I listened to Argent's "God gave rock and roll to you".... I still prefer the 1989 version from KISS with Gene and Paul trading off lines, KISS' version, incidently, became their biggest worldwide hit reaching top10 in at least a dozen countries... I had no idea Ballard wrote "new York groove", but ive heard the original.... Ace Frehley took it to another level totally on his 1978 solo album "kiss" IMO... Born on this day ... - Music Head - 01-11-2015 Lyle Lovett - born on this day in 1957 in Texas that would make him 58 4 Grammy's highest charting single at #10 Country a performance for Barrack Born on this day ... - Ruby - 01-11-2015 Magne Furuholmen aka Mags Furuholmen aka Magne F was born on this day in 1962, in Oslo, Norway. He is one of the three members of new wave synthpop band, a-ha â and is their keyboard player. Heâs co-written quite a few of their better known tracks and has also released an album of his own, Past Perfect Future Tense, which is strangely compelling since he really canât sing! I actually listened to the whole thing â maybe hoping his voice would get better as it went along?! It didn't, but oddly, I didn't mind, although I am unlikely to play it again. Heâs a lot more successful as a visual artist and sculptor than he ever will be employing his voice, and is, in fact, something of a Norwegian national treasure in that department. The band continues, and maintains their popularity twenty years later â fortunately with Mags on the keys and writing duties, and the original frontman firmly to the fore. They either already have, or are due to release a new album this year which has completely passed me by, thus far ⦠I like this track - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOiawXSIX4s and the title track from their 1985 breakthrough album Hunting High and Low ⦠ |
