The rest of the world don't have the lax gun laws that the US has which is why nowhere else has the problems America has...

If you have a gun, the next person wants a gun, and the third person then wants a bigger gun and so on...
its a vicious circle that just goes on and on...

And why should civilians have access to military grade weapons?

I stand by my statement about guns! I do not want to put
myself in a place where I am defenseless against thugs.
If someone had a gun in that church or in the college
maybe they could have stopped the murders before
it got to that point.
We have to face the world as it is not what we would
like it to be.
There are people out there who will kill us for basically no
reason at all except out of prejudice, the fact that
they have no regard for human life, and that they are just
down right crazy.
If the rest of the world want to try and live a life without
protection, more power to y'all but I assure everyone that
the American people, we want a right to defend ourselves.
At least the majority do.

And as long as America maintains that attitude the killings will go on.

Your line;

'if someone had a gun in that church or in the college.......'

Someone did. And look what he did. You have to take the guns AWAY to make any progress in this mess. Allowing maladjusted young men/women to legally obtain firearms is just plain crazy. It's a recipe for disaster not to mention young children finding arms lying around the house (it happens) and being brought up in a gun-culture society.

You cannot expect the situation to change if you are not willing to change the rules of the game.

As the line in the Sting song goes - 'takes more than combat gear to make a man'.

I'm sure you know when I used the line it was meaning someone besides the lone nut having the gun.
We must be prepared in any situation. The bad guys are here.
Why should we let them have the upper hand and kill our loved ones when we have
the right to protect ourselves and our loved ones by putting a stop them.
Do we just let the lawless have control.
Anyone with any common sense will keep their guns out of the reach of children.
That is just a excuse for gun control. There are other weapons in a house that can
kill children too like a knife.
I don't get it. Why would y'all open yourself to such danger if you can defend.
Just sit back and do nothing and let the bad guys kill your family?
This day and time without combat gear we could be a dead man.

Politics - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-10-2015

the bad guys ARE killing your families, friends, churchgoers, students etc...and you have open slather on guns...

again, the REST of the civilised world does not have the problems with killings that the US has because nowhere else allows everyone in society to have firearms so readily available...

and there is no reason whatsoever that the average guy on the street should need an AK-47, surface to air missile launchers or any other military style firearm...

41 massacres have occurred in the US alone since January 1st 2015...
I bet if you add up all the other industrialised countries in the world you'd be lucky to count non-terrorist massacres on one hand over the same period, and the reason always goes back to the slack gun laws that you guys have....

the knife argument is weak also....
there is no way that the latest crackpot could have stabbed or sliced up the amount of people he did if he had a knife, he may have got to one, maybe two people before he
would have been jumped and subdued by other people...

America is and always has been at war with itself......

the fact is....if firearms were restricted in the US, less people would have them, therefore less people would use them and there wouldn't be the indiscriminate killing we all see on the news every two or three weeks....

it seems with your comments Linda(and don't take it personally) that you live in fear because of the so called 'bad guys/outlaws'....
that is a terrible way to live, always looking over your shoulder and wondering if the next guy who walks through the cinema door etc is gonna be the one who opens fire.

almost all of the gun releated murders here in Australia are either bikie/gang or drug releated, innocent people rarely have to worry about being shot(or stabbed for that matter)
you should come over here for a while, you can walk the streets at night and be fairly sure no one will shoot or stab you for your 'nike shoes'....
of course there are places that are dangerous like everywhere in the world namely the nightclub(downtown) areas, but again, that's where the drug dealers operate and where organised crime owns most of the pubs/clubs other than that its perfectly safe in our neck of the woods....

it was only in the last two or three decades the police actually started carrying firearms as part of their equipment here, and that was mainly due to the increase
of bikie turf wars and the influence of Asian drug gangs....
also,
the police on average, probably have to shoot a handful of people Australia wide on any given year, and mainland Australia is almost the same size as mainland US

same goes for England...when they were ordered to carry firearms in the 1980s they threatened to strike because they didn't want to carry them, their reason...
if we have guns, the bad guys will carry and be willing to use guns more readily

we're never going to agree on this subject but the US has major problems with firearms control and senseless murders/massacres and it will never stop until you guys change your way of thinking towards them because like ive already said...the rest of the world does not have this problem because gun laws are strict about who can have access to them, and the rest of the world survives perfectly well without them, which means we must all be doing something right, mustn't we?

Politics - Music Head - 05-10-2015

damn I love you guys
thanks for the responses
a lot to mull over before I make my decision on the laws to implement
would like to respond to each point that was made but that would take all day
it will take me a half hour just to type this you are reading
fact is when you have a country full of nut jobs with guns, I want mine
if they come here they will meet resistance
people seem to think that if we just pass another law, problem solved
have no idea what the gun laws already on the books are
numbering in the thousands I would guess
we seem to forget criminals don't obey laws
if a psycho wants to kill, he will find a way
the only thing we can do is kill the bad guys that kill the good guys
no that doesn't make us bad guys
it's self defense
estimate I heard was 300 million guns in this country
they are out there
nothing we can do
that pesky constitution thing keeps getting in the way of things
the price of freedom

First Music Head, I agree! thank you for your response! They are in for trouble here too if they try to attack us.
And CH, I was speaking of children who may attempt to handle a knife not thugs.
Also, most Thugs get handguns illegally. I am certainly not afraid or do I continually look over my shoulder.
I am only prepared just in case these nut jobs happen to invade my home. What is wrong with that.
A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We must remember that!
Evidently y'all don't have the terrorists we have in the U.S. or you would see what I am speaking of
makes sense.
We have drug dealers right on the corners in our town selling drugs. We don't have to go to clubs.
They are right out in the open and the cops here do nothing about the problem. The druggies break into old folks homes here.
They did break into my Mom and Dad's home. They broke into a old lady's home down the street from us and hurt her.
We have break-ins all the time. So why not be prepared. Again, I'm not afraid because I am armed just in case.
I am a pistol packing mama and not afraid to say so. I'm not sitting back and waiting for the bad guys to
break in my house and shoot me.
Watch the show Cops and you will see how bad it is here. Crazy people everywhere but
again I am not afraid. I have not had a reason to use my guns yet but same as preparing for a hurricane,
if the time should arise, I'm ready.
I do agree we have a major problem with guns but it has nothing to do with the law abiding citizens, it
has everything to do with the thugs who are just waiting for the opportunity to kill us.
Even if Washington were to change the laws that would not stop the ones who get the guns illegally.
One more thing if Washington were to change the laws, there would be the biggest outbreak of resistance
like you all have never heard. I can't speak for the rest of the country completely but in the South if they try to
take our guns, they had better be ready for a fight. That goes for Obama and Ms. Hillary.

Politics - Lovely Linda - 05-10-2015

The law was placed in the Constitution for a reason. We have a right to defend our property and our lives period.
No Liberal in Washington is going to take away that right without a fight.
Why do not the Liberals do away with their security guards if they are so against us protecting ourselves.
I'm sure they will give us a NO on that one.

Politics - Lovely Linda - 05-10-2015

Oh and Music Head, we love you too

Politics - Music Head - 05-10-2015

good point on the security guards Linda
they think we shouldn't have guns for our protection
but I'm thinking those Secret Service guys around Obama are packin' heat

Oh, I'm sure Obama has armed security and so do the Clintons.
