Music Head Wrote:#327 - Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out - 2004

running recap for me - 3's=98, 2's=64, 1's=10
this one - **
from the album: Franz Ferdinand
Written by Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy
Produced by Tore Johansson
Chart action: #66 US, #3 UK, #7 Canada

the players:
Alex Kapranos – lead guitar, lead vocals
Nick McCarthy – rhythm guitar, vocals, keyboards
Bob Hardy – bass guitar
Paul Thomson – drums, percussion, backing vocals

Can't say I've heard this before. I'll probably never hear it again. Scottish band. Only shows 3
albums. Bigger in the UK than here, with a #3 showing for this debut album there, and a #32 here. The
single went gold and the album platinum, and I don't recall it at all. Did it hit Oz CH? Can't find a
mention of it.

Lyrics

So if you're lonely
You know I'm here waiting for you
I'm just a crosshair
I'm just a shot away from you
And if you leave here
You leave me broken, shattered, I lie
I'm just a crosshair
I'm just a shot, then we can die

I know I won't be leaving here with you

I say don't you know
You say you don't know
I say... take me out!

I say you don't show
Don't move, time is slow
I say... take me out!

I say you don't know
You say you don't know
I say... take me out!

If I move this could die
If eyes move this could die
I want you...to take me out!

I know I won't be leaving here (with you)
I know I won't be leaving here
I know I won't be leaving here (with you)
I know I won't be leaving here with you

I say don't you know?
You say you don't know
I say take me out

If I wane, this can die
If I wane, this can die
I want you to take me out

If I move, this could die
If eyes move, this could die
Come on, take me out

I know I won't be leaving here
I know I won't be leaving here
I know I won't be leaving here
I know I won't be leaving here with you

Music Head Wrote:#325 - Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers To Cross - 1969

running recap for me - 3's=100, 2's=64, 1's=10
this one - ***
from the album: Wonderful World, Beautiful People
Written by Jimmy Cliff
Produced by Jimmy Cliff
Chart action: did not chart

the players:
Jimmy Cliff - vocal
others - it's a secret

Wasn't sure who wrote this or recorded it first, but this is the man. A lot of versions over the
years and I can't think of one I don't love. Eric Burdons stands out for me. Film maker Percy Henzell
heard the track and requested it and Jimmy for his The Harder They Come which brought Jimmy his fame.
Ub40's version had the most success with the song making the UK's chart at #16. Wiki lists over 50
covers. A tribute to it's greatness.

Lyrics

Many rivers to cross
But I can't seem to find my way over
Wandering I am lost
As I travel along the white cliffs of dover

Many rivers to cross
And it's only my will that keeps me alive
I've been licked, washed up for years
And I merely survive because of my pride

And this lonliness won't leave me alone
It's such a drag to be on your own
My woman left me and she didn't say why
Well, I guess I'll have to cry

Many rivers to cross
But just where to begin I'm playing for time
There have been times I find myself
Thinking of committing some dreadful crime

Yes I've got many rivers to cross
But I can't seem to find my way over
Wandering I am lost
As I travel along the white cliffs of Dover

Yes I've got many rivers to cross
And I merely survive because of my will

#324 - Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here - 1975

running recap for me - 3's=101, 2's=64, 1's=10
this one - ***
from the album: Wish You Were Here
Written by David Gilmour, Roger Waters
Produced by Pink Floyd
Chart action: non single

the players:
Roger Waters - bass
David Gilmour - guitars, vocals
Nick Mason - drums
Richard Wright - piano
Stephane Grappelli - violin

Tribute to ex frontman Sy Barrett who showed up at the studio to contribute. He was told the guitar
part had already been completed. The cold steel rail reference is from Syd's If It's In You song off
of The Madcap Laughs. Didn't know about the barely audible violin at the end for which Grappelli did
not get credit on the liner notes. He did get paid for it.

Lyrics

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 11-08-2013

^ has to be one of my all time favorites! didn't know Grappelli played on this !!!!

#323 - Elvis Costello - Alison - 1977

running recap for me - 3's=102, 2's=64, 1's=10
this one - ***
from the album: My Aim Is True
Written by Elvis Costello
Produced by Nick Lowe
Chart action: did not chart

the players:
Elvis Costello - guitar, vocal
Clover - other stuff

From the album that made me a life long Elvis fan. Last line of this song became the album title.
Can't believe it didn't chart. Backed by Huey Lewis band minus Huey. The Attractions had yet to be
formed. Linda Ronstadt made the song a minor hit on her Living In The U.S.A. album. Loved it also.

Lyrics

Oh it's so funny to be seeing you after so long, girl.
And with the way you look I understand
that you are not impressed.
But I heard you let that little friend of mine
take off your party dress.
I'm not going to get too sentimental
like those other sticky valentines,
'cause I don't know if you've been loving somebody.
I only know it isn't mine.
Alison, I know this world is killing you.
Oh, Alison, my aim is true.

Well I see you've got a husband now.
Did he leave your pretty fingers lying
in the wedding cake?
You used to hold him right in your hand.
I'll bet he took all he could take.
Sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talking
when I hear the silly things that you say.
I think somebody better put out the big light,
cause I can't stand to see you this way.

Alison, I know this world is killing you.
Oh, Alison, my aim is true.
My aim is true.

#322 - Animals - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - 1965

running recap for me - 3's=103, 2's=64, 1's=10
this one - ***
from the album: Animal Tracks
Written by Bennie Benjamin, Sol Marcus,Gloria Caldwell
Produced by Mickie Most
Chart action: #15 US, #3 UK, #4 Canada

the players:
Eric Burdon - vocal
Chas Chandler - bass
Alan Price - keyboards
Hilton Valentine - guitar
John Steel - drums

Love almost everything these guys did. One of my favorite groups of the british invasion. Eric Burdons
voice just melted me. This song was originaly done by Nina Simone in 1964. It failed to chart but the
Animals made it a hit a year later. Looks like there were different track listings on the UK and US
versions of this album and I don't see this song on the UK version, so I'm not sure which album it
appeared on there. Don't think I even have this album in my collection but I must have it on a best of
set. It reminds me that I don't have a best of set on cd. I must correct that oversight.

Lyrics

Baby, do you understand me now
Sometimes I feel a little mad
But don't you know that no one alive
Can always be an angel
When things go wrong I seem to be bad
But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Baby, sometimes I'm so carefree
With a joy that's hard to hide
And sometimes it seems that all I have do is worry
Then you're bound to see my other side
But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy I want you to know
That I never mean to take it out on you
Life has it's problems and I get my share
And that's one thing I never meant to do
Because I love you
Oh, Oh baby don't you know I'm human
Have thoughts like any other one
Sometimes I find myself long regretting
Some foolish thing some little simple thing I've done

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
