What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-05-2013 ![]() FRANKIE LAINE "hell bent for leather!" vinyl record, 1961. along with johnny Horton,Jim Reeves and Marty Robbins, this guy was my Dad's favourite from back in the day... he used to play this one quite a bit, so when i was old enough and had moved out of home i went and bought it also... pretty much a concept album of songs about or from 'the wild west'... i like all these sort of albums, maybe i should have been born in the US or something LOL... love his voice, perfect for this type of song, also, just found out by surfing the net that Frankie(old brown eyes) was actually as popular saleswise as he was in the US... it seems anyone who was anyone back in the early 1960s recorded 'cool water' which is a song i generally like or love, unfortunately, i do not like Frankie's version for some reason, also, listening to this and the track "the 3:10 to yuma" it reminds me that a couple of years ago the old movie was remade with russell crowe in the lead role of the sherriff...well worth a look if you like western movies, and much better than the original IMO... also, "rawhide",the song, not the Clint Eastwood series that started his career, bought back memories of a hit in the late 1980s by a Scottish group called The Chaps who did a humorous version of this track which also love(you'll find it in the 'track im listening to" thread if you want to check it out! I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: city boy best track: the cry of the wild goose tracks: 1. wanted man ** 2. high noon *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sLwPziSznU audio 3. gunfight at the o.k corral ** 4. bowie knife ** 5. along the navajo trail ** 6. the cry of the wild goose *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq9Gzc0KkxE audio 7. rawhide *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWxggb4wrBs audio 8. city boy ** 9. cool water * 10.the 3:10 to yuma * 11.the hanging tree *** 12.mule train *** 3s=5 2s=5 1s=2 rating: 2.2 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-05-2013 ![]() JOHN DENVER "one world" vinyl album, 1986. you'd be forgiven if you thought John was going all "trans" on you with this cover art... a very good album though with Denver singing about the things he always has...peace,love,nature,the environment etc.. pretty hard not to like anything he does with that beautiful vocal tone he has and the simplistic melodies he is so good at writing.. album didnt do very well anywhere though, reaching #91 in the UK, #90 here and failing to chart on the US or US Country charts, only one single manages to make the charts also...'along for the ride', which only charted in the US reaching #57 on their country charts... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: i remember you best track: let us begin(what are we making weapons for) tracks: 1. love is the master *** 2. love again ** 3. i remember you ** 4. hey there, mister lonely heart ** 5. let us begin(what are we making weapons for) *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCR0sHBrNKs audio 6. fly for me ** 7. along for the ride ** 8. i cant escape ** 9. true love takes time ** 10.one world *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWWYxtIR2bY audio 11.its a possibility ** 3s=3 2s=8 1s=0 rating: 2.3 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 19-05-2013 ^^ lol on the trans comment never even heard this album What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 04-06-2013 ![]() KASEY CHAMBERS & SHANE NICHOLSON "rattlin' bones" cd, 2008 #1 AU Kasey's first album with husband Shane Nicholson... her last couple of solo albums prior to this had a bit of shift away from country to a more pop radio friendly sound, but with this one she returns to her country roots, often crossing over to bluegrass... lovely duets happening here, their voices compliment eachother beautifully, a couple of solo tracks for Kasey on here also... this is probably my favourite album of hers overall, and i cannot understand for the life of me why idiots like Keith Urban are so popular in the US and she cannot seem to get a foot in the door over there, if she could, im sure she would be huge in country circles.... anyway, this one got three ARIA's for album of the year, country album of the year, and song of the year(for the title track), then over at the CMA's out here she took out album of the year, song of the year & single of the year(again, for the title track), and video clip of the year(same track)...so seven awards all up, well deserved IMO, and so unlucky not to be recognised outside of Australia. sorry for the lack of links guys????!!!! I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: sleeping cold best track:tough call IMO,cant decide(just listen to a couple!) tracks: 1. rattlin' bones *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRFZ2uOD4mk video 2. once in a while ** 3. sweetest waste of time *** 4. monkey on a wire ** 5. one more year *** 6. the house that never was *** 7. wildflower *** 8. no-one hurts up here *** 9. the devil inside my head *** 10. sleeping cold ** 11.adeline *** 12.jackson hole ** 13.your day will come ** 14.woe is mine *** 3s=8 2s=6 1s=0 rating: 2.6 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 04-06-2013 ^^ love that one mate What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 04-06-2013 ...you'd love the album also IMO, better put it on your list, you wont be dissapointed i guarentee it What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 04-06-2013 dont have to put it on your list mate...just bought it for you via amazon, you'll have it by june 11th apparently!...enjoy!!!!!!! What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 08-06-2013 Artist Recording History Studio albums - 34 Compilation Albums - 11 Singles - 41 #1 country singles - 9 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Charlie died in 1995. He was a good ol' boy from Arkansas. Don't have much Charlie, 3 albums that I remember. This is probably the best of the three, and has his biggest hit, and I assume it is his best selling album as well. One of those artists labeled country but could easily move into other vocal styles. He had a few hits prior to the biggie here, but nothing as big. Charlie started as a session man for tiny Judd Records, owned by Judd Philips, brother of Sam, who founded Sun Records. Charlie moved over to Sun in 1958 doing session work with Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis. He had a minor hit on his own with Lonely Weekends in 1960. Left Sun in '63, still looking for that follow up. He was on a few other labels before Epic signed him in '67. Some more lean years, waiting for this smash hit on here, which went to #1 on the country chart and top 20 on the pop side, and he was ready for the follow up hit this time with The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, which was even bigger, making #1 on the pop chart. The album was #1 country and #8 overall. This is the only platinum selling album Charlie Rich had but he probably spent a lot of time behind closed doors counting the money from it. It also got him four ACM awards, 3 CMA awards, and 1 Grammy.
