my "singles" collection - Music Head - 08-12-2013

I do agree with you guys
the Clash's had more of a kick
the original of the song was actually done by Buddy Hollys group The Crickets in 1959 but was not a single
it wasn't until 1965 that it became a hit by Bobby Fuller
that was the prime of my music life therefore it will stick with me
loved the Clash also, but then as now, in most cases I prefer the one I heard first

THE CLASH "should i stay or should i go" b/w "straight to hell" 1982

second single off their "combat rock" album...
"a" side is a simple 2 chord riff, catchy as hell and one off Mick Jones finest moments(pretty sure this oe isnt a cover of a Crickets track...LOL)
"b" side is more of a slow funky track sung by Strummer, lots of political/socio type lyrics happening here
single only reached #37 here, i was pretty sure this hit the top10 but obviously, i confused it with something else???

THE STYLE COUNCIL "promised land(radio edit)" b/w "can you still love me?" 1989

TSC's last real single release prior to them splitting up...
but its a cover..."a" side was originally record by Detroit acid-jazz/dj Joe Smooth, ive heard the original and think its a bit too 'fancy-dancy' for me, Weller & Co, have turned the song into a soul/gospel type thing with a dance beat...i like it, but i prefer the full length 7minute version on the 12" single over this one.
"b" side is a fully 'house' dance track...,seriously, this cannot be the same guy who wrote "goin underground","thats entertainment" and "town called malice"???
single failed to chart her, but did reach #27 in the UK

first single from their second album "shine on"...
not as good as the material off their debut album but still okay for modern rock...
my first listen of this "b" side will be happening in about two minutes time as this "pink" vinyl 7" is still sealed up
