THE SEEKERS "ultimate collection" cd,2007

fifty track,double disc collection of tracks by the 'original' seekers...not The New Seekers...
forty of the tracks come from their heyday from the mid to late 1960s, with ten tracks from their latter reunuin albums of the 1990s...
not reallymuch difference between the old and the new, same folky sounds, but Judith Duhram's vocals as still as precise today as they were back in the 1960s...
only criticism i have of this collection is that it doesnt contain my favourite track "we are australian"..which is the 'un-official' national anthem here...
other than that, all their hits are present...
ive always found Duhram to have what i would call a pitch perfect voice and you will hear that on the links i put up below...(along with the non album track 'we are australian')...
so, of the fifty tracks, nine get love scores,thirty nine get likes, and only two that i do not like, which gives an overall score of 2.1 on the MHRS...a sublime effort for a fifty track set:

Fun pulling out an album you didn't know you had. Soft country for the most part. Most known (by
me) for the hit Wildfire. Nothing that good on this album, although there are three love
tracks, with one I don't like. This is Michaels tenth album, and I can't believe he amassed 32
of them, and the guy is still out there. Dropped by the majors back in '97 it appears. This one
made it to #14 on the country chart and #69 on the big one, making it his best showing album
after Swans Against The Sun, which contained the previously mentioned hit. Looks like there
were four singles off of this one, with What's Forever For hitting #1 country. The Two-Step Is
Easy is my favorite and the closest track here to being pure country. Surprised the album came
out as good as it did.

double cd set of material from his vast back catalogue...
superb writer IMO, and great country singer also...
you'll notice here that "sunday morning,coming down" only gets a like score here...thats because IMO,Johnny Cash did the best version of this song...
wasnt really aware of Kris' material all that much until i saw The Highwaymen(kris,willie,waylon and JC) live many years ago... i thought Kris was brilliant that night and stole the show from my two faves in Willie and Cash(still not much of a fan of Waylon though)..
this is a two disc set, am only posting the first disc here today,leaving the second one until tomorrow...

again, nothing i dislike on here...
simply love the guy's voice and his storytelling...

BURL IVES "greatest hits" vinyl,1966

not sure how long ive had this,years and years i guess, must have picked it up from an old secondhand record dealer back in the 1980s sometime...
not sure any greatest hits package would really do his material justice as he was a prolific artist back in the day...
i just like his laid back,easygoing,tongue in cheek style, nothing really serious on here, just lighthearted folky ballads...
and at least this set has my two favourite Ives tracks on it in "funny way of laughin'" and "a little bitty tear"...
not many songs bring a tear to my eyes but "thats my heart strings(thats my boy)" sure does...

THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND "long hard ride" vinyl record, 1976

not sure when i got this one but it has a $2 sticker on it so i guess it must have come from a second hand record store...
sort of what you'd probably call crossover country nowadays...
four of the eight tracks are crap IMO including the title track which is a lengthy instrumental,that one was also the big hit off this one back in the day, but still only reached #63 on the US Country Charts, album was not a big seller neither, only reaching #21 on the album charts out there...
i just find this to overall, boring,lame,suffering from a lack of direction or intelligent lyrics for the most part, if it wasnt for "ami the knid of man" scoring maximum points here, this album would get the score it deserves.
only real highlight here is that Charlie Daniels fiddles around a bit on it...
i cant for the life of me see how these guys managed to release some 20+ studio albums, guess there's a whole generation out there who dont know what real country is all about!
