What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-05-2013 ![]() THE SEEKERS "ultimate collection" cd,2007 fifty track, double disc collection of tracks by the 'original' seekers...not The New Seekers... forty of the tracks come from their heyday from the mid to late 1960s, with ten tracks from their latter reunuin albums of the 1990s... not reallymuch difference between the old and the new, same folky sounds, but Judith Duhram's vocals as still as precise today as they were back in the 1960s... only criticism i have of this collection is that it doesnt contain my favourite track "we are australian"..which is the 'un-official' national anthem here... other than that, all their hits are present... ive always found Duhram to have what i would call a pitch perfect voice and you will hear that on the links i put up below...(along with the non album track 'we are australian')... so, of the fifty tracks, nine get love scores, thirty nine get likes, and only two that i do not like, which gives an overall score of 2.1 on the MHRS...a sublime effort for a fifty track set: from the album: i'll never find another you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ga9Bs4fzSY live the carnival is over http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtSAYCucu5E live world of our own http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5pvpIvz5YQ live georgy girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsIbfYEizLk live morningtown ride http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YP7GCXqdqU live non album track(and my favourite one): we are australian http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOlPCmFG2pc live What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 06-05-2013 Artist Recording History Studio albums - 32 Compilation albums - 6 Singles - 43 Videos - 12 from my library (vinyl) Fun pulling out an album you didn't know you had. Soft country for the most part. Most known (by me) for the hit Wildfire. Nothing that good on this album, although there are three love tracks, with one I don't like. This is Michaels tenth album, and I can't believe he amassed 32 of them, and the guy is still out there. Dropped by the majors back in '97 it appears. This one made it to #14 on the country chart and #69 on the big one, making it his best showing album after Swans Against The Sun, which contained the previously mentioned hit. Looks like there were four singles off of this one, with What's Forever For hitting #1 country. The Two-Step Is Easy is my favorite and the closest track here to being pure country. Surprised the album came out as good as it did. I LIKE THIS ALBUM 1) Still Takin' Chances ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dpV0D1uA7w 2) The Two-Step Is Easy *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnfmjBTid7w 3) What's Forever For ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIIUjgy4hfA 4) Take It Like A Man ** 5) First Taste Of Freedom * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OisYC7Xvr_Q 6) Love Affairs ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUVwAjnudBI 7) Ring Of Truth ** 8) Crystal *** - John Denver for me audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtqEDN02T1g 9) Lost River *** - same here audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvJ3iH17mrI 10) Hearts In The Right Place ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE0peiRhtzU 3's - 3 2's - 6 1's - 1 Grade - 2.2 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-05-2013 Never heard of this eminem beforre.....liked your favourite track though What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-05-2013 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:Never heard of this eminem beforre.....liked your favourite track though My mistake....i remember the song "wildfire" What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-05-2013 ![]() KRIS KRISTOFFERSON "the essential..." cd,2004. double cd set of material from his vast back catalogue... superb writer IMO, and great country singer also... you'll notice here that "sunday morning, coming down" only gets a like score here...thats because IMO,Johnny Cash did the best version of this song... wasnt really aware of Kris' material all that much until i saw The Highwaymen(kris, willie, waylon and JC) live many years ago... i thought Kris was brilliant that night and stole the show from my two faves in Willie and Cash(still not much of a fan of Waylon though).. this is a two disc set, am only posting the first disc here today, leaving the second one until tomorrow... I LOVE DISC 1: worst track: from the bottle to the bottom best track: for the good times tracks: 1. sunday morning coming down ** 2. to beat the devil *** 3. just the other side of nowhere *** 4. me and bobby mcgee *** 5. the best of all possible worlds *** 6. casey's last ride *** 7. help me make it through the night *** 8. darby's castle *** 9. jody and the kid *** 10.loving her was easier ** 11.for the good times *** 12.come sundown ** 13.from the bottle to the bottom ** 14.billie dee ** 15.breakdown ** 16.the silver tongued devil and i ** 17.the taker ** 18.the pilgrim:chapter33 *** 3s=10 2s=8 1s=0 rating: 2.6 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 09-05-2013 ^^ beats the hell out of my set from a while back and that's just the first disc What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-05-2013 Those "the essential..." sets are fantastic value for money IMO What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-05-2013 ![]() KRIS KRISTOFFERSON "the essential..." cd,2004. disc two of the twin disc set by Kris... almost as good as the first disc IMO, but not quite... again, nothing i dislike on here... simply love the guy's voice and his storytelling... a true country music legend I LOVE DISC 2: worst track: sugar man best track: jesus was a capricorn tracks: 1. borderland ** 2. the sabre and the rose ** 3. broken freedom song *** 4. jesus was a capricorn *** 5. shandy ** 6. sugar man ** 7. the last time ** 8. nobody wins *** 9. i'd rather be sorry *** 10.highwayman *** 11.dont cuss the fiddle ** 12.the bigger the fool, the harder the fall ** 13.stranger ** 14.if you dont like hank williams *** 15.here comes that rainbow again *** 16.once more with feeling ** 17.how do you feel 'bout foolin' around ** 18.why me,lord *** 19.please dont tell me how the story ends *** 3s=9 2s=10 1s=0 rating: 2.4 combined total discs 1+2 3s=19 2s=18 1s=0 rating: 2.5 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 13-05-2013 ![]() BURL IVES "greatest hits" vinyl,1966 not sure how long ive had this, years and years i guess, must have picked it up from an old secondhand record dealer back in the 1980s sometime... not sure any greatest hits package would really do his material justice as he was a prolific artist back in the day... i just like his laid back, easygoing, tongue in cheek style, nothing really serious on here, just lighthearted folky ballads... and at least this set has my two favourite Ives tracks on it in "funny way of laughin'" and "a little bitty tear"... not many songs bring a tear to my eyes but "thats my heart strings(thats my boy)" sure does... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: true love goes on and on best track: funny way of laughin' tracks: 1. a little bitty tear *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_uq61U90Xs live on johnny cash show 2. true love goes on and on ** 3. call me mr.inbetween *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6iNbigm3X4 audio 4. cool water *** 5. foggy foggy dew ** 6. goober peas ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBOxw6vbDyo live on johnny cash show 7. pearly shells ** 8. funny way of laughin' *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuUt2_iaZxk audio 9. my gal sal ** 10.this is all i ask ** 11.thats my heart strings(thats my boy) ** 12.blue tail fly ** 3s=4 2s=8 1s=0 rating: 2.3 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-05-2013 ![]() THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND "long hard ride" vinyl record, 1976 not sure when i got this one but it has a $2 sticker on it so i guess it must have come from a second hand record store... sort of what you'd probably call crossover country nowadays... four of the eight tracks are crap IMO including the title track which is a lengthy instrumental, that one was also the big hit off this one back in the day, but still only reached #63 on the US Country Charts, album was not a big seller neither, only reaching #21 on the album charts out there... i just find this to overall, boring, lame, suffering from a lack of direction or intelligent lyrics for the most part, if it wasnt for "ami the knid of man" scoring maximum points here, this album would get the score it deserves. only real highlight here is that Charlie Daniels fiddles around a bit on it... i cant for the life of me see how these guys managed to release some 20+ studio albums, guess there's a whole generation out there who dont know what real country is all about! I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: long hard ride best track: ami the kind of man tracks: 1. long hard ride * 2. property line * 3. am i the kind of man *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UERbS3XoapE audio 4. walkin' the streets alone ** 5. windy city blues ** 6. holding on to you ** 7. you say you love me * 8. you dont live forever * 3s=1 2s=3 1s=4 rating: 1.6 |
