RE: What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 24-04-2018

Been listening to a lot of Tori Amos lately. One of my favourites. Woman is an enigma.

THE WHO  "tommy" cd, 1969:
their fourth....
I cant believe it only took them that many album to reach that pinnacle!...
as a comparison The Beatles were still releasing "eight days a week" from "beatles for sale"
as their fourth album and it took Small Faces till their fifth to release "ogdens nut gone flake"
so I rest my case as to the genius that is/was Pete Townshend...
a concept album about a deaf, dumb and blind kid who could play a mean pinball to escape
the memories of sexual abuse at the hands of a relative, a deep dark subject not only then but
also in todays world!...
Townshend said in his "who I am" autobiography that he was Tommy and the album was his way of
coming to terms with the sexual abuse he suffered as a child in post WWII Britain...
a classic album, and my favourite of theirs by a long shot and can only be enjpoyed with the volume up on
full and the cans on!

could have picked literally any track off this one but I chose this one on this occasion:

Pure genius. Like the original album as well as the movie soundtrack. Both excellent. Quadrophenia is worth a listen as well.

RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-04-2018

ive heard the movie soundtrack, I just don't have it but I love it...didn't like the movie though

Quadrophenia, I was a Mod back in the day, its one of my favourite movies, I own the album on vinyl from back in the day, just never got round to get it on cd

AEROSMITH  "toys in the attic"  cd, 1975

the band's third...
classic rock and a bit of blues rock on here...
only one of theirs I own along with a compilation...
love every track on this one...
not sure about the rest of their studio albums but if theyre half as good as this one
then they would be worth buying!
classic stuff...

could have picked anything off this one but this is a cool live clip so this one it is....

RE: What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 01-05-2018

Al Stewart - On the Border - a 'best of' compilation. Great album! Contains the delightfully quirky Betty Boop's Birthday. Some great lyrics all over the album.

I'm actually embarrassed to say that I own nothing by All, not even a compilation...

KLAATU  "hope"  vinyl, 1977:

picked this up at a second hand record store some time ago...
I was curious as to what it is/was after a lot of commentary on and off the forum over the years...
a concept album/rock opera of sorts about "the sole survivor of an arrogant race of beings who warns
space travellers of hazards on his last days of living"...
some prog sounds, some orchestral sounds, some orchestral rock, a couple of instrumentals...
hearing Beatles, Moody Blues, Queen, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne influences throughout this one...
a great album IMO....

hearing just about all of the above influences in this epic track:

hearing the George Harrison/Jeff Lynne influence in this track:

RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 17-05-2018

^As I'm sure I've mentioned more than once before, I have a soft spot for that album, and 3:47 EST. Two of the first prog type records I heard.

I've been listening to The Best of Kansas. A fab compilation IMHO.

I could listen to "Dust in the Wind" on repeat for a while - and sometimes do! The artwork for the single - tying in with the Point of Know Return album cover ...

JOHNNY WINTER  "raisin' cain" cd, 1980:

tenth album....
Johnny didn't write anything on this album....
I know two of the tracks as being covers so I'm assuming this could be a covers set...
either way theyre new to me so I don't regard them as covers...
terrible album, but it is representative of album art work from the period....
I have four studio and a live set by Johnny and all are brilliant, including this one...
my question is, did he ever make a bad album???

love the album, especially his version of this Dylan classic!
