SKEETER DAVIS "the essential..." cd,1995
another cd from the 'new' stack....bought this one at the end of 2012(i always get a couple of old artists/albums at the end of the year)
Skeeter is often overlooked when it comes to 'great country singers'. and admittedly i too overlooked her for a hell of a long time(but that has changed now with this one!)
first track on this career spanning cd goes way back to 1953 with The Davis Sisters, the rest are solo tracks though.
"fuel to the flame" was actually one of the first tracks Dolly Parton wrote as a writer(way before she became a vocalist herself),
then we get to her 'signature tune'..."the end of the world", which IMO is as good as it basically got with country music....
all up, a solid collection of possibly forgotten tracks from a largely ignored country singer who deserves more recognition than she gets!
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

MARTY ROBBINS "the ultimate collection" cd,2005
double cd....forty hits....
there was more to marty than his singing career...he was also a successful Nascar driver and actor(staring in Clint's "honkytonk man")...
He was named "country singer of the decade" for the 1960s by the CMA....
he sung the original versions of 'singing the blues','a white sports coat','the story of my life', to name a couple...songs he'd written were covered by other artists like Elvis,Frankie Laine and Johnny Cash to again, name a few...
over 100 singles made the US country charts during his career(1952-1986)
anyway, this album has forty of those hits nicely assembled on two discs...
not sure about his studio albums as i dont own any, but this one and his "gunfighter ballads" album would almost certainly be a very good retrospective picture of his career.
also, for the most part i wouldnt call him a country singer...moreso a 'crooner' in the style of Jim Reeves, the score here is about as good as i'd expect an album of forty tracks to be, superb stuff IMO!

Not my kind of country. It's too "modern". The likes do outweigh the don't likes, so it could
have been worse. South Carolina native with one of those deep voices. Perks your ears but maybe
over done for me. This guys debut album went platinum. Never heard that one. Follow up went to
#2 on the big chart. Never heard that one. This is his third. I heard it. I don't like it, but
allmusic does. I probably won't be hearing the next two he has out. Josh has had some hit
singles along the way that I have never heard. Just one of those genres that I tune out. The
modern country artists have murdered traditional country music. Occasionaly we stick our head
out of the dirt, always to get stomped back down. But the breath is good.

SLIM WHITMAN "country style" vinyl
see, i have albums by three "slim" guys...Whitman,Dusty and Shady! LOL
i couldnt find the year of release on this vinyl album from my collection, also, couldnt find the album on the "www" so i had to take a pic on my phone, send it to my email a/c via the same, then copy and paste it to this page...so much effort for a post!
i assume this is some sort of compillation album as these track seven was an early Whitman track, "cool water" comes from the early 1960s etc etc...
either way, i nice collection of songs, five love tracks on here, but two im not keen on which lets it down in the grading process unfortunately...
sorry, no links available for my favourite track here....

CHARLEY PRIDE "the best of...." vinyl, 1969
another vinyl one today....
i wouldnt say i love Chuck, but i do like his style of country music...
this one was his first best of set and contains a large number of his early hits...no #1's on this one though, they seemed to happen for him after this one(ended up with 39 of them overall)...
so unusual to see a black guy doing country music, but cant take that away from him...hell, he sounds white if you dont watch him, i guess he took "white music so selfeshly and used it to get himself wealthy)...sorry guys, reverse Eminem lyric there! LMAO
only a couple of love ones on this one, but more importantly, nothing i dislike at all..
all up, a good solid artist and i should get something on cd one day...
