Born on this day ... - Ruby - 20-10-2015 Al Greenwood was born on this day in 1951 in New York City. He was a founding member of Foreigner â keyboardist for them, as well as writing some of their songs â he was with them for their first three releases. Nowadays, apart from songwriting at which he seems to have been fairly prolific, heâs in music design and production and has made some successful forays into composition for various forms of media. From Foreignerâs eponymous debut, because Iâve been listening to it, and because the keys are fairly prominent, and because it's a really good song! â âCold as Iceâ ⦠https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC99JhQq-3w ⦠and because he co-wrote this (with Mick Jones, who also sings the lead - unusually) and it could probably do with a few more listens â Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 21-10-2015 1940: Manfred Mann that makes him 75... born on Jo-burg, SA... his family moved to the UK because they were unhappy about the apartheid regime in their homeland... I guess being a Jewish family that may not have been well received amongst certain members of the Sa population neither... specialises in the Moog synth, and Hammond-B organ... his bands Manfred Mann, Manfred Mann Chapter Three and Manfred Mann's Earth Band were named after him... had a string of hits through the 60s and 70s with various incarnations of those names... he still performs in jazz clubs to this day... obviously he is not a vocalist so I can pick anything he was involved with so heres my favourite of his with Paul Jones on lead vocals... As at August 2014, he had appeared 785 times across 6 shows, in Pink Floyd, Roger Waters and David Gilmour productions. Right now, heâll be on the Rattle That Lock tour. Heâs a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, as well as composer and producer. It probably all started when a producer put him together with Bryan Ferry (to work on Boys and Girls which, incidentally, Gilmour also contributed to) who later brought him along to Live Aid which is where he met DG. Prior to that heâd had his own band, Industry â they recorded one album Stranger to Stranger. He also toured with The Who, for Quadrophenia, and has been on stage with Kate Bush, Seal, Elvis Costello, and many more; he has recorded with both Gilmour and Waters, as well as Pete Townshend, The Psychedelic Furs, David Broza, Gipsy Kings, etc., etc., â¦. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Carin. Turns out that âLearning to Flyâ was developed by David Gilmour from a Carin demo, and he is duly credited for that. The final product â Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-10-2015 1983: Benjamin Paul Ballance-Drew better known under his moniker.....Plan B white boy rapper from London,UK... he is also a movie director, producer.... I have one album of his...."the defamation of Strickland banks".... a concept album about a white rapper being falsely jailed, his life in jail and his acquittal... I guess youd call it a concept album... good thing is that there is very little foul language on the album, its basically a story put to music...very very good album IMO not too much rap on the album though... he has a very soulful voice when he sings and the music has a funky, r+b motown feel to it. well worth a listen if you ever get the chance or inclination to do so.... Heâs a very clever lyricist having graduated from Cambridge University with a first in English Lit. Sometimes a bit too clever IMHO â I donât always want to have to think too much about what Iâm hearing! You only realise when you hear something that doesnât quite gel (despite best efforts) how fine and how admirable that perfect balance between music and lyrics really is! Good songwriting is obviously no mean skill. In addition to being a singer/songwriter and musician who has released 20+ albums (clearly not everyone is of the same opinion as me!), he has also written four novels (as Wesley Stace). Above thoughts aside, and from dipping into his catalogue, I would say that his most recent offering, Self-Titled, which he released under his real name - Wesley Stace, seems to be a good balance â itâs autobiographical in content so maybe thatâs also because there is a little extra something of himself here, whereas the other stuff might be more clinical. Born on this day ... - Music Head - 23-10-2015 thank you sir when I die I'm coming back to make sure you post it in the death thread and the clip will be appropriate then as well Born on this day ... - Ruby - 23-10-2015 Hereâs wishing you Many Happy Returns MH! (NOT the one you mention above tho' :biggrin1 Real live ones please!!I hope you get to spend your day with the people you love, doing whatever it is that makes your heart happiest.
