Fourth album from the Stats. Expected it to come out better, but so it goes. Only one love
track, with the title song. A few covers of which Bobby McGee didn't work for me. That title
track was a #9 country single and the album became their best selling thus far. New York City
was the only other single and peaked at #19. About half of these songs are Statler originals.
They were establishing their own roots in the country field, after an eight year run touring
with Johnny Cash. They had become regulars on Johnnys tv show. The parting was friendly, as
Johnny probably realized that these guys were too good to hold back. They went on to set the
bar for awards in the country music field. I'm sure Johnny was proud.

KASEY CHAMBERS "carnival" cd,2006

Kasey's fourth studio album...
reached #1 here, and attained platinim status...
no CMA's or ARIA awards for her for this one though, probably because it was a move away from her country sounds and into the crossover pop arena, i guess country fans were slightly disalusioned and pop fans werent quite sure at the time...
it still stands up as a good album though, but unfortunately this time there are what i consider to be a couple of dud tracks, but that is more than offset with four that i love,
only two singles charted off this one, my favourite track "nothing at all" peaked at #9 here, and "surrender" which i do not like peaked around #74, all up though, a good album but not one to really start your entry into Kasey's back catalogue, for that i'd say purchase "barricades and brickwalls" and/or "wayward angel", both of which are superb albums.

Not very good for a JC album. No memorable tunes for sure. Only three Cash originals of which
one gets my worst. Johnny spells for us with W-O-M-A-N. Only that and one other track (duet
with June on the last track) that I don't like at all, but I usually get a few loves from the
mans work. This is Johnnys 64th album so I'm gonna go easy on him. The leadoff Cold Lonesome
Morning was a single with very minor success. Covers include a son-in-law Nick Lowe track, on
which Nick and Dave Edmunds play. That was the only other single. The album failed to even hit
the country chart here, but Canada put him at #23. We still love you Johnny.

Little brother of Jim Seals of Seals & Crofts fame. Some smaller fame of his own as half of
England Dan & Jon Ford Coley who scored a very minor hit with I'd Really Love To See You
Tonight. Dan went solo in 1980 and his sound changed to lean more country, having a few country
chart toppers in the mid 80's. The one that caught my attention was All That Glitters, a no
contest for my favorite here. It's so damn sad, especially when Red stumbles. Only one other
love track and two I don't like. I must have a budget re-issue of this album as my cover is not
the same as pictured. And mine was $5 from the budget bin. No liner notes with mine, all you
get is a track listing and no writing credits. Not as good an album as I expected and I
probably would not dig any deeper into Mr. Seals catalogue.

MERLE HAGGARD "the very best of" cd,2007.

one of country music's REAL "renegades" i guess...
spent time in San Quentin in the late 1950s and early 1960s for armed robbery..was inspired to pick up the guitar whilst in there after seeing an in-prison concert in 1960 by Johnny Cash and the rest is history...
a legend in music circles now, inductee in the country hall of fame etc etc....the list goes on.
anyway, forty eight tracks on this career spanning double cd set, some twenty five or so were #1 hits on the billboard country charts, so obviously a great compilation...
not going to link or list the songs but im sure that you'd know exactly what is on this collection...
so, 48 tracks, 29 of which i love, 15 i like and only four i dont care for gives an overall score of 2.5 for Merle here,
favourite track here is not his signature tunes of "okie from muskogee","branded man" or even "im a lonesome fugitive", but another one of his hits in "i take a lot of pride in who i am"
...and what is it with that stupid "street singer" song where he mumbles and fumbles his way through it, i dunno?, i guess he was trying to imperonate some down and out bum on it, either way it didnt work for me!

a selection of a few i love

What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 02-04-2013

nice compilation I'm sure, with 48 tracks
I only have a skimpy 10 or 12 song set which can't possibly do justice
I do have quite a few albums on vinyl though
one of my many fav rednecks

What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 08-04-2013

TIM HART "milling the wind" cd,2012.

sorry guys cant get the cover art here....
Tim is the lead vocalist for supreb band Boy And Bear....
bought this one at the end of last year on the strength of that one...
i shouldnt have bothered, its a piece of crap!
lots of folky sounds here, some okay, some way below okay...
six likes and six dislikes, giving a rating of 1.5...dissapointing set from an artist that promised so much with the Boy And Bear group!

from the album(assuming i can find youtube links!)

"cover of your code" (my favourite track here)

TAMMY WYNETTE & GEORGE JONES "duets" cd,2008

duets compilation from the so-called President and First Lady of Country Music....
think i prefer both artists as solo performers, but not a bad collection anyway(i guess Music Head would love this this one!)...
these guys were a married couple for a period, but still recorded together after their divorce...cudo's for putting the 'music first' i say!
only a couple of love tracks on here for me,and also a couple i dont like...
their version of "did you ever?" only gets "**" here as i think the Nancy and Leee version is way superior...
all up though, not a bad collection of songs...
