Aussie new wave outfit, had three or four hits here and several other singles, this was their biggest hit...
released around the same time as that stupid 'space invaders' song...video is also similar to that one...
its another one i dreading playing(like the Numan thing!)..but like that one, this one doesnt fare as bad as i thought it would...
it not a bad song...same cant be said for the "b" side though, that is a piece of new wave crap IMO
single reached #1 here, and stayed there for seven weeks!

Porobably one of those artists that really never released a bad track! Both good songs and unfortunately I am only familiar with Baker St. !

this is the only thing i own by Rafferty(i know, its a disgrace!), but he has always slipped my attention whenever i buy cds...
this single has a typical GR sound, both sides of this are pretty good, oh, and by the way, i will put him on my list to buy a cd or two at some point!

ERIC CARMEN "make me lose control" b/w "thats rock and roll" 1988
i really should get a best off set by this guy...
love the "a" side, and the "b" side was a hit back in the 1970s for him..so its really a double "a" sided hit IMO...
pretty sure this was released to promote his then 'best of' set release
single peaked at #14 here, but did top the Canadian charts

DURAN DURAN "the wild boys" b/w "cracks in the pavement(live)" 1984
i bought this one on a UK holiday back in 1984...
i still love this "a" side as its not totally what i'd call the traditional DD sound...
"b" side is good also, much better than the sterile studio version...

BILLY FIELD "try biology" b/w "springfield avenue" 1983
Billy used to be a session muso and record producer here in the 1970s, tried his hand at releasing his own stuff...had a couple of hits in 1982, this was from his second album...
both sides have a bit of a Joe Jackson feel to them, but with a gravel vocalist...
theyre not bad tracks as a whole...

SOFT CELL "tainted love" b/w "where did our love go?" 1981
without a doubt my favourite single from the 1980s...all class IMO!
"b" side is a cover of the old Supremes hit, now im a huge Motown fan but this cover is by far superior to the original also...
without a doubt, one of the greatest "a" and "b" side single combinations i have ever heard, and as you guys have already seen, ive heard/own a lot of singles!
single did here what it did just about everywhere else in 1981....it dominated the charts...yes, it got to #1 and rightfully so!

THE CLASH "i fought the law" b/w "city of the dead" & "1977" 1988
a re-issue to coincide with the release of their double cd best of set "the story of the clash"...
"a" side is a cover of an old 1960s hit...much prefer The Clash's version.
"b" side tracks are two from 1977, theyre good also...

UK SQUEEZE "cool for cats" b/w "model" 1979
one of the best New Wave "a" sides ever IMO...
one of their members, Jools Holland, went on to have great success with his own music show...
"b" side is also pretty good...
single wasnt cool enough to get to #1, instead it reached #5 here,but #1 on the UK charts

ULTRAVOX "love's great adventure" b/w "white china" 1984
another single i bought whilst holidaying back in the UK in 1984...
this single had a limited edition run of 500 copies that was released in a gatefold sleeve with a 10pg booklet and the single was printed on clear vinyl...
i managed to get me a copy of that version...
one of my favourite Ultravox singles.."a" side is quite upbeat and melodic for a single by these guys...
"b" side it their usual dour/solomn sound...
single failed to chart here but did make the UK top10
