my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 03-12-2013

MI-SEX "computer games" b/w "wot do u want?" 1979

Aussie new wave outfit, had three or four hits here and several other singles, this was their biggest hit...
released around the same time as that stupid 'space invaders' song...video is also similar to that one...
its another one i dreading playing(like the Numan thing!)..but like that one, this one doesnt fare as bad as i thought it would...
it not a bad song...same cant be said for the "b" side though, that is a piece of new wave crap IMO
single reached #1 here, and stayed there for seven weeks!

GERRY RAFFERTY "shipyard town" b/w "hearts desire" 1988

this is the only thing i own by Rafferty(i know, its a disgrace!), but he has always slipped my attention whenever i buy cds...
this single has a typical GR sound, both sides of this are pretty good, oh, and by the way, i will put him on my list to buy a cd or two at some point!
single only reached #69 here

LITTLE RIVER BAND "love is a bridge" b/w "inside story" 1988

im a huge fan of LRB, and obviously liked this back in the day, but i recently played their 1975 debut album(to post tomorrow) and this pales into insignificance to that superb album...
nice melody and harmonies happening here(as always), but theres something about both sides of this single that makes me not like it...hmmm!?
single did reach a very good #6 on the charts here

ADAM ANT "strip" b/w "yours,yours,yours" 1984

the "ant-man" had run his race by this time, but i gave him one more chance, which was one more chance than he deserved in hindsight!
"a" side is a piece of crap with Ant trying to stay with the tried and true Ant-Misic sound that wore thin after a couple of years of it!
"b" side is much better, well, better than the "a" side anyway
single failed to chart here, and rightfully so!

GEORGE HARRISON "blow away" b/w "soft-hearted hana" 1979

first single of any ex-Beatle i actually purchased...
"a" side has all the elements of a Harrison solo track, has bits of his mellowed out slide guitar stuff, also has an upbeat jaunty chorus...good stuff!
"b" side also has the usual Harrison sounds...
single peaked at #34 here

BILLY IDOL "dancing with myself" b/w "love calling" 1981

i used to like Billy back in the day, but the more i listen to him now i see and hear very little talent!
i dont like either side of this disc
single reached #24 here

WTF is he thanking a woman for????,maybe he was in denial!

THE STYLE COUNCIL "a solid bond in your heart" b/w "it just came to pieces in my hands" & "'a' side instrumental" 1983

TSC's fourth single release...
"a" side is a re-recording of an unreleased Jam song...good soul stuff happening here...
"b" side(track #1) is a brilliant acoustic track about 'falling from grace', it was recorded in one solitary take thus still has a rough edge to it, and without a doubt in my top five Weller tracks of all time!
"b" side(track #2) is an instrumental of the "a" side, one of the few instrumental versions of songs i actually like, probably because its not as repeatative as a lot of other songs of this kind!
single failed to chart here, but did reach the top10 in the UK
