#339 - Bonnie Raitt - I Can't Make You Love Me - 1991

running recap for me - 3's=92, 2's=58, 1's=10
this one - ***
from the album: Luck Of The Draw
Written by Mike Reid, Allen Shamblin
Produced by Bonnie Raitt, Don Was
Chart action: #18 US

the players:
Bonnie Raitt – vocal
Bruce Hornsby - piano

Was never a fan but I do love this one. Prefer this style over her bluesy material. Only have
two albums and this is one. Co-writer Mike Reid recorded the song himself, but after Bonnies.
Originaly written as an uptempo bluegrass number, the writers realized the song had a greater
impact when it was slowed down. Vocal recorded in one take with Bonnie deciding it couldn't be
better. I agree.

Lyrics

Turn down the lights;
Turn down the bed.
Turn down these voices
Inside my head.

Lay down with me;
Tell me no lies.
Just hold me close;
Don't patronize.

Don't patronize me.

'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.
You can't make your heart feel
Something it won't.
Here in the dark
In these final hours,
I will lay down my heart
And I'll feel the power;
But you won't.
No, you won't.
'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.

I'll close my eyes,
Then I won't see
The love you don't feel
When you're holding me.

Morning will come,
And I'll do what's right;
Just give me till then
To give up this fight.

And I will give up this fight.

'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.
You can't make your heart feel
Something it won't.
Here in the dark
In these final hours,
I will lay down my heart
And I'll feel the power;
But you won't.
No, you won't.
'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.

#338 - Queen - We Will Rock You - 1977

running recap for me - 3's=92, 2's=59, 1's=10
this one - **
from the album: News Of The World
Written by Brian May, Mike Stone
Produced by Queen
Chart action: b-side

the players:
Freddie Mercury – vocal
Brian May - guitar
Roger Taylor - drums
John Deacon - bass

Just can't love this. Maybe if there was some actual music with it. Plus the sporting event
thing. Didn't know it was the b-side of We Are The Champions. Had stopped buying singles long
ago. Two anthems on one single.

Lyrics

Buddy you're a boy make a big noise
Playin' in the street gonna be a big man some day
You got mud on yo' face
You big disgrace
Kickin' your can all over the place
Singin'

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

Buddy you're a young man hard man
Shoutin' in the street gonna take on the world some day
You got blood on yo' face
You big disgrace
Wavin' your banner all over the place

We will we will rock you
(Sing it!)
We will we will rock you

Buddy you're an old man poor man
Pleadin' with your eyes gonna make you some peace some day
You got mud on your face
You big disgrace
Somebody better put you back into your place

We will we will rock you
(Sing it!)
We will we will rock you

(Everybody)

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

(Alright)

"***" from me....cant help but love it, and to have a "double-a" sided hit like that is almost as good as "penny lane/strawberry fields forever" IMO, awesome stuff!

#337 - Earth, Wind & Fire - That's The Way Of The World - 1975

running recap for me - 3's=93, 2's=59, 1's=10
this one - ***
from the album: That's The Way Of The World
Written by Maurice White, Verdine White, Charles Stepney
Produced by Maurice White
Chart action: #12 US

the players:
Maurice White – vocal
Philip Bailey - vocal
Verdine White - vocal
other people playing things

One of their few love tracks for me. It was the title of a movie, re-released as Shining Star. It flopped both times. The band was featured in the movie. Hit #5 on the r&b chart. The album of the same name was the soundtrack for the movie.

Lyrics

Hearts of fire creates love desire
Take you high and higher to the world you belong
Hearts of fire creates love desire
High and higher to your place on the throne

We've come together on this special day
To sing our message loud and clear
Looking back we've touched on sorrowful days
Future pass, they disappear

You will find peace of mind
If you look way down in your heart and soul
Don't hesitate 'cause the world seems cold
Stay young at heart 'cause you're never (never, never, ..) old at heart

That's the way of the world
Plant your flower and you grow a pearl
A child is born with a heart of gold
The way of the world makes his heart grow cold
