my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2013 THE STYLE COUNCIL "(when you)call me(live) b/w "internationalists(live)" 1985 Australian only release recorded live in Sydney on their Australian tour... "a" side is a lovely love song, one of their best songs IMO "b" side is a live version of a track from their superb "our favourite shop" album...this one has a real hard edged Jam feel to it, it is, IMO, the only time Weller rocked it up fully during the TSC years... single charted here at #91 "(when you)call me" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fT7YEpFArQ live "internationalists" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne2qeMfIeUs live my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2013 HOODOO GURU'S "like wow-wipeout!" b/w "bring the hoodoo down" 1985 Dave Faulkner(vocalist here), is one of the best alt rock vocalists to ever grace a stage IMO...he has it all! love the stomping/thumping bass and drums on this "a" side...all up a great typical HG's track... "b" side is also typical hard hitting Guru material, love that one also... single only peaked at #15 here, i was sure it made the top10, but the record books dont lie,but my memory may have faded ovr time LOL "like wow-wipeout!" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoyzhBV-leI video "bring the hoodoo down" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJLw2g_6Hs4 audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2013 KYLIE MINOGUE "step back in time" b/w "instrumental version" 1990 yeh, i own some kylie singles as youve already seen here...! its not because i like them, its because her aussie releases on the aussie 'mushroom records' label are regarded as collectors items in the UK where she still has a huge fanbase... i dont like the "a" side, and theres a stupid instrumental version of that stupid song on the flipsidewhich makes it double-stupid IMO... single peaked at #5 here, im sure it did the same,if not better, in the UK "step back in time" * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsMzM49OIII aussie release video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjGoYbt7sVE uk release video "step back in time(instrumental)" * no link available my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2013 JULIAN LENNON "now youre in heaven" b/w "second time" 1989 one of Jule's six number one hits here... this guy would have been big everywhere had he not been John's son and always compared to him, which is really unfair for anyone in the same position! "a" side has a distinct David Bowie feel to it, great stuff IMO... "b" side has a typical Julian feel to it, its good also single reached #1 here(as previously explained above) "now youre in heaven" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1UoutkAxVc tv performance "second time" ** no link available my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2013 WINGS "give rieland back to the irish" b/w "instrumental version" 1972 this single was released right in the middle of the terrible civil war in Northern Ireland between Catholics and the British Army with the Irish Prodestants... terrible piece of history IMO... anyway, Macca thought he'd stick his ten cents worth in and go all political and socially aware like John Lennon was... problem was, McCartney is not as savvy as John on political issues...his always seem rather whimsical and toned down...no matter how whimsical his thoughts and warblings, this was still banned by the BBC(as was his previous effort 'hi hi hi')... regardless of that, i love this "a" side because its not very often i get to hear it(its yet to be released on cd as far as im aware) "b" side is an instrumental version of the "a" side...i can forgive PM for that because he rarely does that with his singles... single did actually make the charts here making it all the way to #17 "give ireland back to the irish" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4OlM0lPqcE audio "instrumental version" * no link available for those who've never heard this song, this is my pick from today's postings...its good early 1970s Wings r+r...! my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-12-2013 SEX PISTOLS "submission" b/w "no feelings" 1984 this one is one limited edition yellow vinyl... its release was probably in response to PiL's "this is not a love song" hit single(ie:another McLaren grab at cash on Johnny's coat-tails!)... both songs were originally released on the "neve mind the bollocks..." album in 1977. single failed to chart here "submission" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UZ0bPaOdbQ audio "no feelings" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAyrhlomON0 audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-12-2013 LINDSAY BUCKINGHAM "trouble" b/w "thats how we do it in l.a." 1981 great single from Buckingham IMO... "a" side has a distinct Fleetwood Mac feel to it, "b" side is really weird, not sure how to desribe it??? single topped the charts here "trouble" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d1guIZZNbM video "thats how we do it in l.a." *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI0Iipb4Pe0 audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-12-2013 THE BEATLES "beatles hits!-ep" 1964 a four track 'ep' comprising of four previously issued singles from The Fab Four... 'ep' only charted at a peak of #52 here, but thats understandable considering in the previous twelve months the tracks were hits in their own right! "from me to you" *** "thank you girl" *** "please, please me" *** "love me do" *** im not posting links here because we all know the songs at hand! my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-12-2013 IMPRESSIONS "amen" b/w "long, long winter" 1965 i cannot knock anything Curtis Mayfield is/was involved in! "love both sides of this single especially the forgotten classic that is "amen" single peaked at #57 here "amen" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI0Iipb4Pe0 audio "long long winter" *** no link available my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-12-2013 FEARGAL SHARKEY "listen to your father" b/w "cani say i love you" 1984 Feargal's debut solo single... both sides written by members of Madness, songs have a slight Madness sound about them... this single wasnt released here, i bought it when i was in the UK in 1984 "listen to your father" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byGU_5KTEqo video "can i say i love you" * no link available the "a" side is my pick of the vinyl today. |
