What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 14-02-2013 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote: Brilliant album. I have all his solo stuff and this one is my favourite (apart from the instrumental 'Screenplaying' which is 10/10). This is almost a concept album in that most of it deals with the working men of Northumberland who travelled abroad to find work. The 'Shoes' track refers to the one status symbol they had, which was a good pair of shoes to woo the ladies on payday night. (You know what women are like when it comes to shoes...........) What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 14-02-2013 The other Mark Knopfler album you should get - http://youtu.be/OrLdKYRBOEE The other great album is his collaboration with Chet Atkins called 'Neck and Neck'. http://youtu.be/tIKt_WQHia8 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 15-02-2013 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Must be brothers day. Just posted the Righteous Brothers single in the classics thread and now I have the Statler Brothers for this one. This is their eighth album and charted lower than the previous seven, coming in at #36 on the country side. The title track was the lone charting single at a weak #31. Two love tracks for me and nothing I don't like. Another song on here I love, but not by these guys is Margie's At The Lincoln Park Inn. A Tom T. Hall classic that both he and Bobby Bare make theirs. The version on here is a little faster and just doesn't sit right with me. The album is another nice one by the brothers. Seems I've been on a run of country albums lately. That's just the way they come up people. Apologies to all the country haters. Was expecting a little more from this album. The early work is supposed to be the best to me. This is George's second album. It would be the next one that began his string of eight consecutive #1 country albums. He has had twenty in his career. Not sure if anyone matches that. And he has always maintained his country sound. Can't say that for today's modern country crowd. This one topped out at #18 and eventually hit the platinum status which became a standard for a George Strait album. It does contain his first #1 single with Fool Hearted memory and another #1 with my favorite, A Fire I Can't Put Out. Bottom line though, is there is nothing I love on this album and two I didn't care for at all, making it a sub-par George Strait album for me.
