Watched the BS documentary as well. There are a couple of scenes where they are agonising over the drum sound amongst other instruments for over a week. The real problem is that the material really wasn't up to scratch to start off with. Although they go to great lengths to describe how the album should be conceptual in nature (trying to get a particular perspective across), the songs are pretty random and for the most part directionless. I am a great fan of TGOTJ - which was completely conceptual, and superbly executed as well. However TP leaves me cold and this is an exercise in marketing more than anything else. BS himself says that the lyrics are just random thoughts thrown down until they find something that sticks. Not what I would consider a well-planned or though out work. A selection of B-sides. A case of trading on the success of DOTEOT to sell a mediocre set of songs.

I think we differ on this.
I liked the CD, and don't feel they're poor songs. I felt The Promise is much better than several recent BS releases...
I suppose if Floyd fans can't agree which of their albums is strongest, there's little chance of consensus :biggrin:
