Looking Back At Some Classics - Mrrusty1 - 17-10-2012 A good song and very popular with middle aged divorcees at karioke nights lol Music Head Wrote:#492 - Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive - 1978 Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 17-10-2012 #490 - Coldplay - Clocks - 2002 running recap for me - 3's=6, 2's=4, 1's=1 this one - *** from the album: A Rush Of Blood To The Head Written by Coldplay Produced by Ken Nelson, Mark Phythian Chart action: #29 Billboard Hot 100, #9 UK Singles, #28 Canada, #7 Australia the players: Chris Martin – vocals, guitar, keyboards Jon Buckland – guitar Guy Berryman – bass Will Champion – drums Not a chart topper but it did spend 22 weeks bouncing around. From the groups second album, it got them a Grammy. Released as the second single here, but the fourth in the UK. Chris Martin says the song was inspired by Muse. Nearly left off the album as they considered it a wrap after 10 songs. The band was already touring before the album was even released, when Chris relented, going back in the studio for this final track. The song addresses the helplessness of being in a dysfunctional relationship. Cryptic as usual but that's what the pros say. Has been used in numerous commercials, films and tv shows, ER being the most notable to me. Lyrics Lights go out and I can't be saved Tides that I tried to swim against You've put me down upon my knees Oh I beg, I beg and plead (singing) Come out of things unsaid, shoot an apple off my head (and a) Trouble that can't be named, tigers waiting to be tamed (singing) You are, you are Confusion never stops, closing walls and ticking clocks (gonna) Come back and take you home, I could not stop, that you now know (singing) Come out upon my seas, curse missed opportunities (am I) A part of the cure, or am I part of the disease (singing) You are [x6] And nothing else compares Oh no nothing else compares And nothing else compares You are [continues in background] Home, home, where I wanted to go [x4] Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 17-10-2012 classy classic IMO Music Head Looking Back At Some Classics - TraceNspace - 17-10-2012 Ooooh.....I love Clocks. Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 18-10-2012 #489 - Drifters - Under The Boardwalk - 1964 running recap for me - 3's=7, 2's=4, 1's=1 this one - *** from the album: Under The Boardwalk Written by Arthur Resnick, Kenny Young Produced by Bert Berns Chart action: #4 Billboard Hot 100 the group: Johnny Moore - lead vocal not sure after that revolving door makes it hard to figure out Probably one of the first black groups I was into. But then '64, I was soaking up the british invasion. Sure I still loved this one too. Johnny Moore was drafted to sing lead because the track's original singer, Rudy Lewis, died of a heroin overdose in his hotel room the night before the session. Lewis had sung lead on most of their hits since the 1960 departure of Ben E. King. Didn't miss a beat with the replacement. The group had been around since the early 50's with numerous front men. Thought this would have charted at #1. It's actually their third highest charting single after Save The Last Dance For Me and There Goes My Baby, both with a Ben E. King lead. After this hit, Johnny Moore remained the groups lead until they hung it up in 1976. But this classic was the groups last top 10 song. Lyrics Oh, when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof And your shoes get so hot, you wish your tired feet were fireproof Under the boardwalk, down by the sea On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be (Under the boardwalk) Out of the sun (Under the boardwalk) We'll be havin' some fun (Under the boardwalk) People walking above (Under the boardwalk) We'll be falling in love Under the boardwalk, boardwalk From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel Mmm, you can almost taste the hot dogs and French fries they sell Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be (Under the boardwalk) Out of the sun (Under the boardwalk) We'll be havin' some fun (Under the boardwalk) People walking above (Under the boardwalk) We'll be falling in love Under the boardwalk, boardwalk Oh, under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be (Under the boardwalk) Out of the sun (Under the boardwalk) We'll be havin' some fun (Under the boardwalk) People walking above (Under the boardwalk) We'll be falling in love Under the boardwalk, boardwalk Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-10-2012 one of the best 'boy bands' ever LOL Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 19-10-2012 #488 - Cure - Just Like Heaven - 1987 running recap for me - 3's=8, 2's=4, 1's=1 this one - *** from the album: Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me Written by Robert Smith Produced by Robert Smith, David Allen Chart action: #40 Billboard Hot 100, #29 UK Singles the band: Robert Smith – guitar, keyboards, vocals Simon Gallup – bass guitar Porl Thompson – guitar, keyboards, saxophone Lol Tolhurst – keyboards Boris Williams – percussion, drums The third single from the album and the bands first song to hit the top 40 in the U.S. after 11 of those in th U.K. Recorded in France, an instrumental cut of the track was recorded for a French tv show. A strategic move by Smith to familiarize the public with the music before the lyrics were even done. Smith says the song is about hyperventilating — kissing and fainting to the floor. Never done that from a kiss. Maybe from what a kiss might lead to. The album peaked at #25 here, and #6 there. It was their best selling at the time and opened the door for bigger things. I was on board long before this one. Lyrics "Show me how you do that trick The one that makes me scream" she said "The one that makes me laugh" she said And threw her arms around my neck "Show me how you do it And I promise you I promise that I'll run away with you I'll run away with you" Spinning on that dizzy edge I kissed her face and kissed her head And dreamed of all the different ways I had To make her glow "Why are you so far away?" she said "Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you That I'm in love with you" You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Strange as angels Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You're just like a dream Daylight licked me into shape I must have been asleep for days And moving lips to breathe her name I opened up my eyes And found myself alone alone Alone above a raging sea That stole the only girl I loved And drowned her deep inside of me You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Just like heaven Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-10-2012 i was never a fan of The Cure, dont like this song at all, in fact, cant really recall any that i like actually |
