I really want to read the books. I've seen the movies (both the American one and all of the Swedish ones). I've talked to people who have tried reading the books though and they all hate them. I started the third one, but it just seemed to be more effort than I was prepared to put in. I enjoyed the first one after getting about 3/4 through it. That the books were really hard to get into to. What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 31-07-2012 Russell Baker - Growing Up - 1982 ![]() Proving once again my theory is true, anyones biography can be good if told by a good writer. Vaguely had a remembrance of this guys name. NY Times editorial writer with his heyday there in the 70's. Has written numerous books including two autobiographies. Also hosted PBS's Masterpiece Theater from 1992-2004, which is probably where I heard of him. This first biography only covers up to when Russell got married, thus the title I guess. It won him a Pulitzer Prize on publication, and the success prompted a sequel in 1989. Very well written, with lots of humor about his childhood days.
