Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 15-03-2013 A fun song...I like it! Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 17-03-2013 #351 - Dion - Runaround Sue - 1961 running recap for me - 3's=83, 2's=55, 1's=10 this one - *** from the album: Runaround Sue Written by Dion DiMucci, Ernie Maresca Produced by Gene Schwartz Chart action: #1 US, #11 UK the players: Dion DiMucci - vocal Del Vikings - backup vocals other people playing things Dion's only #1 song and he did it after splitting from the Belmonts, who he had been with since starting his career. Dion declined on that plane ride that took Buddy Holly, Richie Vallens and the Big Bopper. Back up on this hit is by the Del-Satins who did session work for the label. Can't tell any difference between them and the Belmonts. A doo-wop is a doo-wop. This one made Dion a household name, enough so to be inducted into the R&R HOF in 1989. Never saw it. Like the song, but I've never gone in for the whole "the man is keeping me down" thing. Jimmy plays the main character in the movie, in which a young man comes to Kingston, Jamaica, to make his way as a musician. The song has been covered by Madness and Joe Jackson. The only cover I see charting is by Rockers Revenge, which reached #30 in the UK. Never heard of them. Lyrics Well, they tell me of a pie up in the sky Waiting for me when I die But between the day you're born and when you die They never seem to hear even your cry So as sure as the sun will shine I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine And then the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Ooh, the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Well, the oppressors are trying to keep me down Trying to drive me underground And they think that they have got the battle won I say forgive them Lord, they know not what they've done 'Cause, as sure as the sun will shine I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine And then the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Ooh, the harder they come Harder they fall, one and all And I keep on fighting for the things I want Though I know that when you're dead you can't But I'd rather be a free man in my grave Than living as a puppet or a slave So as sure as the sun will shine I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine And then the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Ooh, the harder they come Harder they fall, one and all Hey, the harder they come Harder they fall, one and all What I say now What I Say now What I say now What I say, one time The harder they come, the harder they fall, one and all The harder they come, the harder they fall, one and all Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-03-2013 runaround sue *** jimmy cliff ** Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 23-03-2013 The Cliff tune is above par but nothing great! Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 24-03-2013 #349 - Who - Baba O'Riley - 1971 running recap for me - 3's=84, 2's=56, 1's=10 this one - *** from the album: Who's Next Written by Pete Townshend Produced by Who, Glyn Johns Chart action: non single the players: Roger Daltrey - vocal Pete Townshend - guitar John Entwistle - bass Keith Moon - drums Sometimes it's better to just not read the lyrics. Awesome performance clip for this one. Named for Townshend’s spiritual guru, Meher Baba, and minimalist composer Terry Riley, whose work inspired the track’s repetitive electronic textures. I thought it should have been called Teenage Wasteland. Written for another Rock Opera piece that Townshend was working on to follow up Tommy. It never saw the light of day but the song became the leadoff to the groups next album. Townshend says the song is about the absolute desolation of teenagers at Woodstock. Oh! now I get it. Lyrics Out here in the fields I fight for my meals I get my back into my living I don't need to fight To prove I'm right I don't need to be forgiven Don't cry Don't raise your eye It's only teenage wasteland Sally ,take my hand Travel south crossland Put out the fire Don't look past my shoulder The exodus is here The happy ones are near Let's get together Before we get much older Teenage wasteland It's only teenage wasteland Teenage wasteland Oh, oh Teenage wasteland They're all wasted! |
