Beck - Odelay - 1996

Influences abound from L.A. born Beck. Unique throughout, you certainly can't pigeonhole him. Fourth release and the only one I own. Don't mean that negatively. Just the only one I got around to. Hell, a man can't buy everything. I love the eclectic taste here of just being all over the board. Not a great album for me but pretty good. Album charted at #16 with singles of Devils Haircut (23), Where It's At (5), Jack-Ass (15) and The New Pollution (9). Single positions are Modern Rock charts. Also a grammy for album and another for Where It's At. We used to call those the kiss of death. Love that 60's look in track #4.

Nick Lowe - Abominable Showman - 1983

Brinsley Schwarz frontman back with his 5th solo effort. Album reached #129 with no charting singles, at least in the U.S. Surely a disappointment after previous releases which may explain a shift in successive efforts, but that didn't work either. Nick's cult following would continue. Raging Eyes is the standout for me, and a nice live clip from American Bandstand. The strings in tracks #9 and #12 are nice. And I don't know what that stupid Tanque-Rae thing is.

Painkiller Hotel - Black Roses - 2008

Chicago band formed in 2006, self released this debut in 2007, then signed by Nashville independent label which re-released this in 2008. I'm guessing it has yet to make any waves, but it was ok.
