RODRIGUEZ "coming from reality" cd,1972.
Sixto Rodriguez, Detroit latino folky who never quite got the recognition he thoroughly deserved IMO....
his debut set "cold fact" is sublime IMO, a folk classic!, but this one, his second and final album doesnt live up to the hype/potential of that debut set, dont get me wrong, it is still very good, but it lacks a lot of the biting social commentary of that one...
still, some lovely melodies and tunes here,shame he didnt get his just rewards back in the day and had to wait until the doco "searching for sugarman" came out...good job Australia and South Africa knew a good thing when they heard him forty years ago....shame on you rest of the world,shame on you!

OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW "carry me back" cd,2011.
finally bit the bullet a while ago to get this one after Music Head's son-in-law(Major Tim) couldnt speak highly enough of these guys in August 2011 when MH and I were staying at his house in Florida...
well, he continued to FB PM me enquiring as to whether i'd got round to getting one of their albums....
i did, and i have got one now, just wishing i'd have got it earlier though...
very good collection of of hillbilly/bluegrass/country folk done like it should be done with no injections of 'modern' crap attached...pure,basic,simple stuff...
the feeling i got while listening to this was "this sounds like John Denver's 'thank god im a country boy' or 'grandma's feather bed' type stuff"...
lots of banjos,fiddles,mandolins,harmonicas,resophonic guitar sounds etc etc....all great stuff for a good old fashioned redneck knees-up hootenanny....YeeHar pardner!

When they were home last month, he gave me Dawes too.
Failure on my part to research that one.

Amazing how many of these country legends trace their roots back to Jimmie Rodgers. He is
indeed the father of recorded country music. As for Ernest Tubb, he carried the title well
through the 40's and 50's. As CH and I stumbled upon Ernest Tubb's record store in Nashvile, I
realized I didn't have anything by the man. Took care of that with this very nice compilation.
Excellent bio in the packaging which is always a bonus treat. The Texas Troubadour made his way
to Nashville. His biggest hit was Walking The Floor Over You, first recorded in 1941. The set
covers song from then till 1966, that last one being a duet with the then rising star, Loretta
Lynn. That one comes out as my fav among the 14 love tracks here. Nothing I don't like, making
this set among my highest scoring albums. Joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1943 and was inducted
into the CMA Hall Of Fame in 1965. Passed away in 1984 at the age of 70.
