What Are You Reading ? - PennyLane - 23-06-2012 ![]() Anthony Swofford wrote Jarhead as well. A couple of years ago we read Jarhead in one of my classes and the professor was friends withe Swofford so he got him to come to the class and talk and hang out with us. It was great! Dude is awesome! What Are You Reading ? - LMD - 26-06-2012 Didn't get too far into "1984." Friend was off work last week so most of my reading time went to hanging out with him and some others. Ended up watching "The Mist" one night. Starting the novella of the same name now (Figure I can knock it out quick while still in the mood for it and go back to 1984 after. Its only 100 pages or so.). What Are You Reading ? - hatchetman - 27-06-2012 LMD Wrote:Didn't get too far into "1984." What Are You Reading ? - Spinnertick - 30-06-2012 Speaking of "1984", I just recently bought that and have only just started reading it today. I've been told many times "Trust me, you'll like it". I'm hoping they're right. Another book, I've recently bought is rather intriguing book called "Talkin' 'Bout A Revolution: Music and Social Change in America". I'm honestly stoked to crack that one open. I've always been fascinated with the correlation between Music and Politics/Society and how each has formed the other. What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 03-07-2012 ![]() Story of Lithuanian immigrants and their struggles with becoming americans. Upton Sinclair was a big socialist at the time of this writing, and it was apparent by this work. Not shy about extolling the evils of capitalism. The meat industry seems to be the main offenders here. Graphic details of how animals were processed during the main characters employment there. Constant jabs at "the man". There's always the man to contend with. You gotta serve somebody. Very good book. Grade - A next up - Amazing Grace by Kathleen Norris What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 12-07-2012 ![]() Loaned to me by a preacher neighbor. A womans journey to spirituality. Didn't do much for me. She has several poetry books to her credit for which she is better known. Has spent time at a monastery where she renewed her faith and felt compelled to inform others of her journey. Not a very interesting one. Grade - D next up - Growing Up by Russell Baker What Are You Reading ? - TraceNspace - 12-07-2012 Music Head Wrote: You amaze me. You always stick with a book even if it's dull. I can't get through it if it doesn't hold my interest. What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 13-07-2012 TraceNspace Wrote:You amaze me. You always stick with a book even if it's dull.
