Michel âMitchâ Dorge was born on this day in 1960 in Winnipeg, Canada. Heâs the drummer/percussionist for the Crash Test Dummies and a motivational speaker. Heâs also released a solo instrumental album titled As Trees Walking, which I was hoping would be as intriguing as its name; not sure Iâll listen to it again â parts are listenable and others are just too weird and dark for my taste - not all instrumental either. In places it sounds like a sinister hybrid of Charlie Haden and Bjork if such a thing could ever be imagined! It won him the Prairie Music Award for Outstanding Instrumental Recording. Impossible to find on YouTube â I listened on Deezer.

He left Kansas in 1983 due to his conversion to Christianity and the subsequent different directions he felt he and the band were heading. He recorded his first solo album, Seeds of Change in 1980, at the beginning of that shift, and got himself an allstar lineup of contributors with three members of Kansas as well as Barriemore Barlow, some members of the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Mylon Lefevre, and Ronnie James Dio (which some people thought was kinda odd, all things Black Sabbath considered, and the quite different tone of this album. Dio himself said he was just in it to make the music. Amen :biggrin1
