What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-01-2013 blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!!! What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 14-01-2013 from my library (cd) ![]() I'll put him back into folk for this one. Pretty much a continuation of his last foray into obscure traditional tunes. No Dylan originals. Nothing I love on this one but nothing I don't like either. A flatliner that has life. Let's call it a coma. Just Bob with his guitar and harmonica. The public is growing weary though as this was another decline in sales, only reaching #70 here and #35 in the UK. Allmusic calls this one of his best, strongest albums of the second half of his career. It got Bob a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album. This would complete Bob's contract with Columbia so he was free to label shop. He resigned with them a short time late for another 10 albums. Looks like 4 more to go on that contract. At least there was no Froggie on this one. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Stack A Lee Best Track - Two Soldiers 1) World Gone Wrong ** 2) Love Henry ** 3) Ragged & Dirty ** 4) Blood In My Eyes ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz542iQchN4 5) Broke Down Engine ** 6) Delia ** 7) Stack A Lee ** 8) Two Soldiers ** 9) Jack-A-Roe ** 10) Lone Pilgrim ** 3's - 0 2's - 10 1's - 0 Grade - 2.0 allmusic - 2.1 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-01-2013 your link...not bad so if he has four more albums to go under contract then that means we'll have to wait 15yrs for the last one to come out then... What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-01-2013 ![]() CAT STEVENS "remember:the ultimate collection" cd,1999. wasnt sure whether to put this one in pop or here in folk genre as he was a pop star back in the day, yet his songs are firmly rooted in the folk sound also... all the well known hits are here along with several album tracks from the period 67-77... i really should invest in some of his studio albums at some point as i dont have any, except for "roadsinger" under the moniker of Yusuf, which is who he became when he converted to the Islamic faith in the late 1970s... great album, full of some of the greatest songs ever written IMO...i simply cant pick one solitary track out here as my favourite as i love so many of them equally, hell, i even love his cover of Sam Cookes "another saturday night"...just simply love the guy,his songs and everything he stands for(peace, love and understanding) I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: the foriegner suite best track: around a dozen of them tracks: 1. moonshadow *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGNxKnLmOH4 live 2. father and son ** 3. morning has broken *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5sSEkZ86ts live 4. wild world ** 5. the first cut is the deepest *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwZ1y5WxtOk live 6. lady d'arbanville *** 7. oh very young *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_eUnxDE8YY live 8. matthew and son *** 9. i love my dog ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWT2qHVftGk live 10.ruby love ** 11.sitting ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djpnsqdNabM audio 12.hard headed woman * 13.dont be shy * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOOPPO91t2Q live 14.cant keep it in *** 15.here comes my baby *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm-tuNvsDz0 audio 16.into white ** 17.old school yard *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDyc_iVn1ZU audio 18.where do the children play *** 19.land of free love and goodbye ** 20.another saturday night *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLeWB3C2cLo live 21.the foriegner suite * 22.just another night ** 23.peace train *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sjSHazjrWg live 24.if you want to sing out, sing out ** 3s=12 2s=9 1s=3 rating: 2.4 or 8/10 What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 18-01-2013 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote: A master songwriter. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 18-01-2013 from my library (cd) ![]() Once again one of those Essential collections are exceptional. Liner notes always contain an excellent bio as well. Had no idea Hank Snow hailed from the great white north. Hatched in Nova Scotia in 1914. I was not that familiar with the mans work, but knew he was influential in country music circles. Got turned on to music when his mom gave him her Jimmie Rodgers collection. That connection is obvious in Hank's early material. Songs included here date from 1950 thru 1973. The man had 88 singles with seven of them reaching #1 in his career, with the best known being I'm Movin' On. Headed south in the 40's hooking up with Ernest Tubb, who pulled some strings to get Hank into the Grand Ole Opry in 1950. Inducted into the CMA Hall Of Fame in 1979. Love half of the 20 tracks on here. Hank died in 1999 at the age of 85 at his home in Madison Tennessee. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-01-2013 good man SteveO....welcome to the "Church of Elvis", i think Mh needs to ask for forgiveness at the alter of The King LOL What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 22-01-2013 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Title is in reference to his 25 years in the biz. Looks like 37 albums deep and the man's still got it. Dylan can only dream of it. Didn't fare that well on the charts at #28 Country but Johnny never lost his core audience. Ricky Skaggs and Rodney Crowell with guest spots along with George Jones harmony on I'll Say It's True. Only three Cash originals but he had tailed off long go with his own tunes. Allmusic didn't care much for this one but they screw up sometimes. Four love tracks for me and nothing I dont like. Three singles released of shich only (Ghost) Riders In The Sky had any success at #2. The others were Bull Rider and I'll Say It's True. Not that well accepted but still a great album for me.
