Jerome, do you have an ultimate Oldfield favorite or do you enjoy them all equally depending on your mood ?
Jerome Wrote:As discussed previously - Mike Oldfield's Incantations (new version) - quite a lot of new material on the 2nd CD. A full live concert on DVD as well. A good buy.

I enjoy different albums at different times but I have to say that TB II is a favourite (Obviously the original TB is wonderful as well) and 'The Songs of Distant Earth' eclipses all of his other albums. I did not like Amarok or Music of the Spheres although the latter has not been played a whole lot. The one that really intrigues me is Crises. The second half of Incantations is incredible and I like Ommadawn and Hergest Ridge as well.

By the way - the introduction to the original TB I still rate as the most riveting piece, or sequence of notes, I have ever heard. That was a stroke of genius and it is incredibly simple even though it gives the impression of being complex. The sign of a true master I suppose. The first time I heard TB I was sitting on a beach at the edge of the Namibian desert and the view was exactly the same as the picture on the back over of the original vinyl release - complete with fires burning as well. A memorable time for me, and I hope, for the lassie I was chasing!

Jenni Vartiainen's album "Seili". She's one of the biggest names here in Finland.

Nice story, Jerome and thanks for the MO info ! There was one I heard that had a lot of Celtic music and reels to it ...didn't particularly care for it .

You're talking about Voyager - one of his weaker efforts.

I need a best of

What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-02-2012

IMO CCR's studio albums come pretty close to being best of's anyway...seven absolutely classic albums with not a single dud track to be found(except for some of the so called bonus songs on the cds)
and most of Fogerty's solo stuff is brilliant also..
but i know you know that anyway!
