What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 25-08-2015

Deep Purple - Burn - still stands up well. Really enjoying this today. Have not heard it in years.

Gordon Giltrap, followed by Gordon Giltrap and Oliver Wakeman, followed by Oliver Wakeman and Steve Howe. So the journey goes – a long and winding road!

A link to GG’s very much overlooked Visionary album – brilliant stuff – Simon Phillips on drums. All instrumental – he wrote this based on inspiration he got from the works of poet/painter, William Blake (Tyger, tyger burning bright, etc.,). The other clips are lousy and there are not many of them anyway, so this is the whole thing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRpwZBWadr8

From Ravens & Lullabies with Oliver Wakeman - a mix of vocal and instrumental tracks. They complement one another well - also, a great listen. This is instrumental track - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4-3j39jQY0

And from The 3 Ages of Magick, Oliver Wakeman & Steve Howe with Howe on about half the tracks. There’s a good and varied selection on this album, some simple stuff, some not so much – I didn’t want it to end. This is a track where OW seems to literally be pulling out all the stops – on the Hammond! Lol! Not to mention showing off some seriously different styles – perhaps one too many, but oh well - there's nothing like aplomb! -

Thanks so much for sharing, Kate--talk about some dudes fully invested in their playing--oh my! Made my night, yes indeed.

What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 27-08-2015

very nice history of the band
both the music and the booklet
Dick Clark made these guys giving them their own brief lived show
truth is, there is only 5 tracks on this 55 track release that I really like
so overkill is an understatement, unless you were a huge fan
surprised they made it as big as they did, considering the opposition in the mid 60's
and those corny uniforms which they had to eventually shed to be considered legit
but is was a good run which they converted into a lifelong oldies circuit gig

this sounds like an intervention to me

[Image: 220px-Greatest_Hits_%28Pat_Benatar%29.jpg]

PAT BENATAR "greatest hits" cd, 2005

career stats:
studio albums...............11
compilations.................30
singles.........................36

this album.........................#47 US

US female rocker who had a string of hits in the 1980s and the early 1990s....
twenty tracks on this compilation...
only "love is a battlefield" reached #1(and that was only in Netherlands and Australia)....
as a matter of fact, I don't like that song but obviously the record buying public does/did....
scored a few top10 hits but not many(was more a top20-30 artist)
I like most of the songs on this one....
most of her subject matter delved with dysfunctional/destructive relationships, domestic violence and child abuse(not sexual, just treating them pretty bad)...
I think she has a good voice for rock music but being a predominantly 1980s artist we hear lots of those horrid hollow synth drums on a number of tracks...
all up, not a bad album but I wouldn't rush out to get her studio albums

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: you better run
best track: we belong

There's one album of hers you should have in your collection - Crimes of Passion. Her guitarist/husband is one seriously talented individual. His style is quite simple but very effective.

The Royal Philharmonic - The Orchestral Tubular Bells - stunning.

What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 29-08-2015

Queen - A Night at the Opera - one of the most original albums to come from a rock band.

This is from YT - 'Did u know Queen is the only band in history to have all of its members composing a number one in the Billboard? Freddie ( Bohemian) Brian (I want it all) Roger (Radio ga ga) John (another one bites the dust).

Van Morrison - Avalon Sunset.
