CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:"***" from this end mate.....as expected i guess?! Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 02-03-2013 Great Pretender, one of the classics from the birth of Rock n Roll! Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 02-03-2013 #359 - Little Eva - The Loco-Motion - 1962 running recap for me - 3's=79, 2's=53, 1's=10 this one - ** from the album: The Loco-Motion Written by Gerry Goffin, Carole King Produced by Gerry Goffin Chart action: #1 US, #2 UK, #1 Canada the players: Eva Boyd - vocal other people playing things Never was big on any of those dance craze songs, even The Twist. This is ok, just don't love it. Carole King's name turns up on a lot of these 60's hits, before she discovered herself. Eva was hired as a babysitter for Gerry and Carole's newborn, when she was asked to cut a demo for this song. There was no locomotion dance until the song became a hit and Eva had to create one. The song went to #1 again in 1974 when it was recorded by Grand Funk Railroad. I like Eva's better. I think she would qualify as a one hit wonder. Lyrics Everybody's doin' a brand new dance now Come on baby do the locomotion I know you'll get to like it if you give it a chance now Come on baby do the locomotion My little baby sister can do it with ease It's easier than learning your ABC's So come on, come on do the locomotion with me You gotta swing your hips now Come on baby jump up jump back Oh well, I think you've got the knack Now that you can do it let's make a chain now Come on baby do the locomotion Chug-a-chug a motion like a railroad train now Come on baby do the locomotion Do it nice and easy now and don't lose control A little bit of rhythm and a lot of soul Come on, come on do the locomotion with me Move around the floor in a locomotion Come on baby do the locomotion Do it holdin' hands if you get the notion Come on baby do the locomotion There's never been a dance that's so easy to do It even makes you happy when you're feeling blue Come on, come on do the locomotion with me Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-03-2013 a number one hit here also MH...for me a score of "**" also, Kylie Minogue covered this one in 1987, was a #1 hit here and the UK for her Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 03-03-2013 #358 - Ben E. King - Spanish Harlem - 1960 running recap for me - 3's=80, 2's=53, 1's=10 this one - *** from the album: Spanish Harlem Written by Phil Spector, Jerry Lieber Produced by Jerry Lieber, Mike Stoller Chart action: #10 US the players: Ben E. King - vocal other people playing things Fresh off of his split from the Drifters, this was Kings choice for his first single. Always wondered if King regretted leaving the group. The Drifters seem to have had the better career. Unusual to see Phil Spector's name show up on the writing end and not as producer. I guess he was building that wall of sound. Isn't it funny that any time you here the words "wall of sound" you think of Phil Spector? It's like he copywrited that phrase. The song was not released as the single in the UK, it was the flip side, First Taste Of Love. It flopped. Lyrics There is a rose in Spanish Harlem A red rose up in Spanish Harlem It is a special one, it's never seen the sun It only comes out when the moon is on the run And all the stars are gleaming It's growing in the street right up through the concrete But soft and sweet and dreamin' There is a rose in Spanish Harlem A red rose up in Spanish Harlem With eyes as black as coal that look down in my soul And starts a fire there and then I lose control I have to beg your pardon I'm going to pick that rose and watch her as she grows in my garden I'm going to pick that rose and watch her as she grows in my garden (There is a rose in Spanish Harlem) La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la (There is a rose in Spanish Harlem) La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la (There is a rose in Spanish Harlem) Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 03-03-2013 "***" from me also MH, great tune indeed and an equally great vocalist Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 03-03-2013 Like you MH...it's ok Music Head Wrote:#359 - Little Eva - The Loco-Motion - 1962 Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 03-03-2013 I did not like GFR's version of Loco-Motion...man they really sold out on that one and no doubt made a lot of moula from this single!!!!...lol CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:a number one hit here also MH...for me a score of "**" also, Kylie Minogue covered this one in 1987, was a #1 hit here and the UK for her Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 03-03-2013 Spanish Harlem from Ben E King...great vocalist..original style!..I like this song! |
