What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 08-01-2013 from my library (vinyl) Johnny was on that downhill slide by this 70th album. Yes, I said 70th. Some liner notes by Johnny indicate his pessimism about his future. Something about hoping to sell a couple hundred copies of this. Not sure how mny it sold but it never touched the charts, not even on the country side. It was the third consecutive Cash album to meet that fate and the last one for long time label Columbia, as he was dropped after this one. Not a bad album, with two love tracks, but one cover of CCR's Have You Ever Seen The Rain that doesn't work for me. Must be the synth. Only two Cash originals, including my favorite of I'm Leaving Now. That was the only single released from this, and it failed to chart. It appeared 15 years later on Johnny's American series, but this is the original. The other love track, a cover of Kristofferson's Here Comes That Rainbow Again. Johnny does it as well as Kris. He would record for Mercury for some years before Rick Ruben revived his career. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Have You Ever Seen The Rain Best Track - I'm Leaving Now 1) I'm Leaving Now *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLns13qq4I4 2) Here Comes That Rainbow Again *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf1cOB8E9x4 3) They're All The Same ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCXlW70GeYo 4) Easy Street ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTGJPYAwr_0 5) Have You Ever Seen The Rain * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC-JX9l_SZ8 6) You Beat All I Ever Saw ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpdCO-2HOc4 7) Unwed Fathers ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPU7CTag2Co 8) Love Me Like You Used To ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BmVfyzQhD0 9) Casey's Last Ride ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_SUzRnidq8 10) Borderline ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRFQuw9LjFc Grade - 2.1 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 08-01-2013 i'd say theres only a handful of Cash songs over his entire career that i can say i do not like....just heard the CCR cover and that has been added to the list....terrible synths, sounds like his vocals have an echo type effect to them....its all so not like cash! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-01-2013 ![]() MUMFORD & SONS "sigh no more" cd,2009. UK modern folk group Mumford's debut set loved this one when it first came out, so i dont know what is wrong here this time around... i just dont like it anywhere near as much as i did... just all sounds too much of a muchness now, very little substance within musically IMO, still, lovely harmonies and lyrics, i think i mentioned here last week in a thread that if they dont expand and evolve with their next album i wont be purchasing it. not as good as "babel" now IMO but still okay as far as modern albums go... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track:i gave you all best track:little lion man tracks: 1. sigh no more ** 2. the cave ** 3. winter winds ** 4. roll away your stone ** 5. white blank page ** 6. i gave you all * 7. little lion man *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLJf9qJHR3E video 8. timshel ** 9. thistle and weeds *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjPTaBu5Lkw live 10.awake my soul ** 11.dust bowl dance ** 12.after the storm * 3s=2 2s=8 1s=2 rating: 2.0 or 6.7/10 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 11-01-2013 ^^ love this one but you guys scared me off Babel when I ordered I do agree about the sameness that's the thing, when a band comes out and has a distinctive sound, it tends to wear thin What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 11-01-2013 from my library (cd) ![]() Not even sure I have any Robbins studio albums, so this is good recap even though with 52 albums it has to be lacking a lot. Surprised it's missing A White Sport Coat. That and the lack of any liner notes is the only complaint. No bio, no song information, not even writing credits, pretty shabby for a major label (Columbia). But it is all about the music, right? Marty started out in the mid 50's and continued recording up to his death from a heart attack in 1982 at the age of 57. He holds the distinction of being the last artist to perform at the legendary Ryman auditorium and the first to perform at the new home of the Grand Ole Opry. Inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame two months prior to his death. At least he was alive to receive that honor. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 13-01-2013 from my library (cd) ![]() For hard core country music historians only probably. That's me. It's the yodeling that would turn most off. On almost every track. I'm not a big fan of it either, but I can overhear it. Jimmie is considered the father of country music by most. Taking the blues heard in his Mississippi upbringing to another level. We're talking 1920's here people. Slightly before my time. Brilliant in the fact it even exists in recorded form. Surprisingly good sound quality. I'm sure it's been cleaned up considerably. Originals had to be pretty rough. These tracks were done from 1927 to 1931. Jimmie passed away in 1933 at the young age of 35 from TB. When the Country Music Hall Of Fame was established in 1961 Jimmie Rodgers was among the first three inductees, along with Fred Rose and Hank Williams. His legendary status was is well deserved. My dad's favourite from that period, im guessing Jim is one of Music Heads faves from that period also.... well, i grew up listening to Gentleman Jim Reeves as much as i listened to Elvis,Beatles,Small Faces and the Animals...and its no surprise that those early nfluences have stayed with me ever since... Jim died in a plane crash in 1964(aged 42), he was the pilot, from memory he flew into a thunderstorm as there was apparently no way around it, his death by no means made him famous like it did with Buddy Holly,Big Bopper,Richie Valens,Eddie Cochran etc etc...Jim had been having major chart success since around 1953, so he was probably at the peak of his career... this one is a double cd set featuring forty tracks, the surprise ommision here is one of my favourite tracks of his "i love you because"...not sure why its not included but with such an extensive back catalogue i guess something had to miss out. only two on here im not keen on, and over half of them i love...just love him best when he croons his way through songs. im not going to list all the tracks but they were all hits on the country charts with many of them crossing over for mainstream success also.. the album gest a rating of 2.5 from me with 21 loves,17 likes and only 2 dislikes. the dislikes are "penny candy" and "adios amigo"... of the love tracks here are five of my favourites in link form... billy bayou http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJgJ4AAcleE live he'll have to go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvlUrNRRE4E live the blizzard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x153Xm9fLPU audio distant drums http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GQQnqopj1Q audio i wont come in while he's there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpTmjH5cl14 audio also, for Music Head... Elvis did a very good version of "he'll have to go" history says it was the last studio track he recorded prior to his death, but obviously Jim's is the definitive version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVMFIh0Tdl8 audio What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 14-01-2013 ^^ Elvis's doesn't come close |
