What Are You Listening To? - Erixouther - 05-09-2009 Rachael - Buffalo Tom Very good track. Check it out, along with "Postcard" by the same. What Are You Listening To? - Fretup - 05-09-2009 Peter Frampton's good old number 'Show me the Way'. Good songs will ever remain new and fresh for me I guess......... What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 05-09-2009 from my library Aerosmith - Get A Grip - 1993 - ** ![]() One of my daughters favorite bands, but I prefer their earlier stuff, probably the first 4 or 5 albums. Formed in 1970 in Boston, Ma. This is the 11th studio album, which certainly churned out the hits, 5 singles, becoming the best selling to date, debuting at #1. The album took 2 grammy's which is supposed to be the death sentence, but the band never played by the book. Even though they are remarkably similar, the power ballad material comes off best for me. Could it be Alicia? I do respect their longevity, but they should hang it up if they haven't already. Tyler's a freak! Favorite Track - Cryin' There was a time When I was so broken hearted Love wasn't much of a friend of mine The tables have turned, yeah Cause me and them ways have parted That kind of love was the killin' kind Now listen All I want is someone I can't resist I know all I need to know by the way that I got kissed I was cryin' when I met you Now I'm tryin' to forget you Love is sweet misery I was cryin' just to get you Now I'm dyin' cause I let you Do what you do - down on me Now there's not even breathin' room Between pleasure and pain Yeah you cry when we're makin' love Must be one and the same It's down on me Yeah I got to tell you one thing It's been on my mind Girl I gotta say We're partners in crime You got that certain something What you give to me Takes my breath away Now the word out on the street Is the devil's in your kiss If our love goes up in flames It's a fire I can't resist I was cryin' when I met you Now I'm tryin' to forget you Your love is sweet misery I was cryin' just to get you Now I'm dyin' cause I let you Do what you do to me Cause what you got inside Ain't where your love should stay Yeah, our love, sweet love, ain't love If you give your heart away I was cryin' when I met you Now I'm tryin' to forget you Your love is sweet misery I was cryin' just to get you Now I'm dyin' just to let you Do what you do what you do down to me, baby, baby, baby I was cryin' when I met you Now I'm tryin' to forget you Your love is sweet misery I was cryin' when I met you Now I'm dyin' cause I let you Do what you do down to , down to, down to, down to I was cryin' when I met you Now I'm dyin' to forget you Your love is sweet I was cryin' when I met you (fade) 1) Intro - ....YouTube - Aerosmith - Get A Grip - Intro 2) Eat The Rich - ** ....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlygmOt5AUU 3) Get A Grip - * ....YouTube - Aerosmith - Get A Grip (Lyrics) 4) Fever - * ....YouTube - Aerosmith: Fever 5) Livin' On The Edge - ** ....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4AxQXmasg4 6) Flesh - ** ....YouTube - Aerosmith - Flesh 7) Walk On Down - * ....YouTube - Aerosmith - Get A Grip - Walk On Down 8) Shut Up And Dance - ** ....YouTube - Aerosmith - Shut Up And Dance 9) Cryin' - *** ....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2I4mZQmJMU 10) Gotta Love It - * ......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A977j_WnQbk 11) Crazy - *** ......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFaBKg5iEwU 12) Line Up - * ......YouTube - Aerosmith - Line Up 13) Amazing - *** ......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX4br4w9g5E 14) Boogie Man - * ......YouTube - Aerosmith - Boogie Man 3's - 4 2's - 6 1's - 6 Rating - 1.9 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 06-09-2009 from my library Allman Brothers Band - A Decade Of Hits - 1991 - ** I'm not really a big fan of "southern rock", but when a band hangs around this long they have to have put out some decent stuff. And with the bluesy material they perform live, it's pretty good, They are based in Georgia but got together in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969. This compilation pretty much sums it up. It covers the period from 1969 to 1979, their first 6 albums. I'm sure there are other collections after this one, as the band is still touring, but this is their best material. Favorite Track - Melissa Crossroads, seem to come and go, yeah. The gypsy flies from coast to coast Knowing many, loving none, Bearing sorrow havin fun, But back home hell always run To sweet melissa... mmm... Freight train, each car looks the same, all the same. And no one knows the gypsys name No one hears his lonely sigh, There are no blankets where he lies. In all his deepest dreams the gypsy flies With sweet melissa... mmm... Again the mornings come, Again hes on the run, Sunbeams shining through his hair, Appearing not to have a care. Well, pick up your gear and gypsy roll on, roll on. Crossroads, will you ever let him go? (lord, lord) Will you hide the dead mans ghost, Or will he lie, beneath the clay, Or will his spirit roll away? But I know that he wont stay without melissa. Yes I know that he wont stay without melissa. 1) Statesboro Blues - ** ....YouTube - Allman Brothers Band - Statesboro Blues -Live 2) Ramblin' Man - ** ....YouTube - Allman Brothers - Ramblin' Man 3) Midnight Rider - *** ....YouTube - The Allman Brothers Band - Midnight Rider 4) Southbound - *** ....YouTube - Allman Brothers - Southbound Gainesville Florida 1980 5) Melissa - *** ....YouTube - The Allman Brothers Band - Melissa 6) Jessica - ** ....YouTube - Allman Brothers - Jessica 7) Ain't Wastin' Time No More - ** ....YouTube - Allman Brothers "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" (Live-2003) 8) Little Martha - * ....YouTube - Allman Brothers Band - Little Martha 9) Crazy Love - * ....YouTube - Crazy Love - Allman Brothers Band 10) Revival - * ......YouTube - Allman Brothers Band - "Revival" 3-17-05 11) Wasted Words - ** 12) Blue Sky - ** ......YouTube - Allman Brothers Band - Blue Sky 13) One Way Out - ** ......YouTube - The Allman Brothers Band 1995 One Way Out Live at the R&RHOF 14) In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed - * ......YouTube - Allman Brothers - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed - 1970 15) Dreams - * ......YouTube - "Dreams" - The Allman Brothers Band - FULL 16) Whipping Post - *** ......YouTube - The Allman Brothers Band with Duane - Whipping Post - Fillmore East - 09/23/1970 (Part 1) 3's - 4 2's - 7 1's - 5 Rating - 2.0 What Are You Listening To? - Beach - 06-09-2009 Music Head Wrote:from my libraryGreat song you've chosen as the stand-out, Melissa - I used to sing it with my own band all the time back in 1980/81. Even have a couple of recordings of it from those days somewhere. Started doing One Way Out during a long-ish stint at a restaurant down in the snow country out here back in 1995 as well. Have been doing Statesboro Blues for quite a few years and used to do Southbound in a band back in the mid-seventies. I've always been a fan of the Allmans and of Southern Rock generally. This isn't bad for a greatest hits type set! What Are You Listening To? - Erixouther - 07-09-2009 "The Count Of Tuscany" by Dream Theater. One of the most epic songs I have ever heard. The musicianship is just phenominal. Check it out =] What Are You Listening To? - Iota - 07-09-2009 Melt-Banana - Blank Page Of The Blind What Are You Listening To? - Iota - 10-09-2009 East West Blast Test - In the Dogloo What Are You Listening To? - Iota - 10-09-2009 Excrementory Grindfuckers - Grindcore In Your Face What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 10-09-2009 Dan Reed Network - Slam ![]() Quite a bit to say about this one... This is one of those albums that I bought on the strength of one song, only to find that the rest of the album is a donkey. Suppose there's nothing intrinsically wrong with it, it's just that it doesn't hit the spot for me. That having been said, it's frequently worthwhile re-visiting records that you haven't hit it off with before. In this case, my opinion didn't improve much: - Musically it's sort of a funky take on the Aerosmith sound (which is bad), although the Nile Rogers production is typically polished (which is very good) - Lyrically it's cringeworthy. Dan tells that his baby is a "Tiger in a Dress", & that he'll be "Doin' The Love Thing" with her "All Night Long" - Rainbow Child is still a great song IMO - Listenable, but only just At least I didn't rip my ears off... |
