What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 18-01-2015 Cressida from the debut album Cressida (1970 ) I love this so mellow What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 18-01-2015 What Are You Listening To? - Big Ears - 18-01-2015 SteveO Wrote:Never heard of Little Angels! I will have to check them out! As for Queen, some bands appeal to me in a live setting and Queen is one of those bands! Brian's solo guitar set is fabulous! I found some YouTube clips of She's a Little Angel by Little Angels, but I did not post them because I didn't think they were good enough! I've got an Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC TV) recording of Queen's Legendary Concert From Hammersmith Odeon, Christmas 1975. I don't think it has ever been released on CD. What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 19-01-2015 I enjoyed your comments and lists on this site that I came across today while browsing, Big Ears! http://www.classicrockforums.com/forum/f4/kerrang-100-greatest-heavy-metal-albums-all-time-23475/ What Are You Listening To? - Big Ears - 19-01-2015 Thanks Steve, but I hate reading my own posts. Yesterday, I could feel myself getting into a dispute with someone at PE over my indifference to Roger Waters, but acknowledgement that he contributed great basslines to Pink Floyd's work. This other person's contention was (a) with my use of the word 'great' and (b) that it was probable David Gilmour played those bass parts. This is a well known bone of contention: http://www.neptunepinkfloyd.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=326. Anyway, I posted a reply (on the possible unreliability of secondary sources) and then decided this person was trying to wind me up, so I went back and completely deleted the post. Sometimes you just have to let people sound off, no matter how irrational they appear! It can be a real bugbear trying to find good, postable stuff by some artists. Your discretion, your quality standards are appreciated What Are You Listening To? - Big Ears - 20-01-2015 I tried Grooveshark tags here, but I don't think they are compatible. Although a bit fiddly to post, Groovesharks have their advantages, unless you particularly want a video. Here's a link to the search list, which is better than nothing (you don't have to sign in): http://grooveshark.com/#!/search?q=little+angels+-+she%27s+a+little+angel+ What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 21-01-2015 I've been listening to Paul Weller's Stanley Road today. Had the CD for some time and haven't really paid it much attention before - not sure why?! So much to listen to, so little time! I like it a lot - especially this track, which in this clip is live and acoustic. (Sound quality seems terrible on others.) "You Do Something To Me" - What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-01-2015 im a huge Weller fan, have been since around 1980 when i first heard The Jam's "thats entertainment"...been hooked on the guy ever since! i like that stripped down acoustic version, but still prefer the original piano version.... "stanley road".... named after the street he grew up on in Woking,Surrey.... probably the most "complete" album he ever made, whereby every track has something different to offer, very eclectic recording IMO, and the people of England thought so also, making it the biggest seller of his career out there... the track "you do something to me" is also the most played 'wedding song' played at UK weddings since 1995 when it was released... love his cover of Dr.John's "walk on gilded splinters" on the album also. personally i do prefer his previous 1993 album "wild wood"...have you got that one Ruby??? its very 'earthy','rootsy','folky' in places and a bit of blues also.... his last three or four albums really havent hit the mark in that theres been a bit of filler on each album(even for a Weller-phile like myself) Paul is set to release a new album in either march or april of this year...word has it that it almost borders on 'prog',either way, it cant be any worse than his last effort "sonik kicks" IMO.... gotta give his respect if only for the fact of his longevity in the industry, making two successful comebacks after The Jam and that he is always trying something new and trying to find new sounds like Neil Young does(the problem with both artists is that it doesnt always work, but when they get it right...its brilliant stuff! Ruby, have you read my Paul Weller 'beginners guide' thread in the 'beginners guide to...' section of the forum? he was listening to a lot of artists like Neil Young and Nick Drake around that time. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-01-2015 BOB DYLAN "self portrait" cd, 1970 career stats: studio albums........36(and one to be released in a couple of weeks time) singles..................58 this albm stats: #4 US, #3 AU, #1 UK singles: "wigwam"...........#41 US, #24 UK Bob's tenth studio album... slammed by the critics initially but has gained cult status recently with the official bootleg version "another self portrait" released last year... about half this album is covers including his version of Simon and Garfunkel's "the boxer" in which Dylan duets with himself... he also,IMO, nails "let it be me"...best version ive ever heard of this song! even his version of the old "blue moon" song is pretty darn good IMO... on this album Dylan actually tries to sing in tune similar to his "lay lady lay" vocal style and it works bloody well for me.... im not sure if his re-recorded versions of "like a rolling stone" and "the mighty quinn" are new studio recordings or whether they are live versions, either way, theres no need to re-hash the old...just ''ring in the new'... only track on here i dont like on here happens to be the only single released off it and thats a stupid instrumental called "wigwam"... then theres "woogie boogie"...why change the words round???? i believe Dylan himself is on the record as saying he hates this album with a passion and that he only recorded it to try to distance himself from the "spokesman of a generation" tag he got back in the 1960s(another thing he is uncomfortable with) and to boot... Music Head, our Dylan man on the forum doesnt like this album much neither with it barely making the pass mark, but me... i think it one of his best works...and thats what makes music great, each person has their own opinion! sorry guys...no links for this one which is not out of the ordinary for a Dylan album I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: wigwam best track: i forgot more than you'll ever know tracks: 1. all the tired horses ** 2. alberta #1 *** 3. i forgot more than you'll ever know *** 4. days of 49 *** 5. early mornin' rain ** 6. in search of little sadie ** 7. let it be me *** 8. little sadie ** 9. woogie boogie ** 10.belle isle *** 11.living the blues *** 12.like a rolling stone ** 13.copper kettle *** 14. gotta travel on ** 15.blue moon *** 16.the boxer *** 17.quinn the eskimo ** 18.take me as i am ** 19.take a message to mary *** 20.it hurts me too *** 21.minstrel boy ** 22.she belongs to me ** 23.wigwam * 24.alberta #2 ** 3s=11 2s=12 1s=1 rating: 2.4 |
