BONDI CIGARS "mercy" cd,1998

career stats:
stuio albums......9
compilations......1
singles..............0

this album: no chart entry

this is the fifth of nine studio albums from these Aussie blues guys...
i used to know their singer/writer Shane Pacey many years ago but we sort of got lost in the midsts of time and space....
band have twice been nominated as best blues and roots band here, but didnt win either time...winning aint everything i guess, just to be recognised is just as good in some respects!
anyway,
this is laid-back blues from whiteboys so guess its not real blues, songs have a few tinges of country and slight funk to them at times...
well written, performed and produced IMO as the casual listener.
these guys are still touring here and probably do so on and off for probably eight months a year, a very very good live band with a huge following amongst the blues fans here and bar fans in general.
im not very optimistic about youtube links from this album,so i'll be happy if there's a couple including my favourite...

I wish you weren't so cavalier about White folks doing the Blues--we may not have the accents but sure suffer equally.

Music Head Wrote:the silly stereotypes we must accept

That's just it--WE DON'T and not have to go all PC in the process. Stereotypes impose burdens on those who hold them as well as those we stereotype.

Jerome Wrote:Life in a Tin Can - The Bee Gees - absolutely magnificent. This one reminds me of my long lost youth.

While not to my taste, these folks have genuine musical value and will please 21st Century prog rock fans. Very well-done Website with 2 more songs included: http://www.rishloo.com/ I wonder if their name is a phonetic pronunciation of that great French Cardinal who is a particular hero to French-Canadians (my mind takes me to strange places sometimes)? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardinal_Richelieu

Fair enough and no further annoying questions from me.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA "time" vinyl/cd 1981

album stats: #1 UK, #3 AU, #7 CAN, #16 US
singles:
"hold on tight".........................#4 UK ...#5 AU...#3 CAN..#10 US
"twilight"...............................#30 UK..#93 AU...............#38 US
"rain is falling"............................................................#101 US
"here is the news"..................#24 UK
"ticket to the moon"...............#24 UK
"the way life's meant to be".....#83 UK

ELO's tenth album...
only sold around a million copies worldwide, pretty lame compared to the previous two("discovery" and the "xanadu" soundtrack)....
still, lots of great ELO trademark sounds happening here on this concept album...
the conceptual theme was about a guy from the 1980s who somehow wakes up in 2095(a hundred years out of his time) and the struggles he faces to cope
with the huge changes in life and society in that time...
unlike a lot of concept albums i think the songs here do actually have a life of their own outside the album...
this one also contains their psuedo-rockabilly hit "hold on tight" which incidently, was their final top10 hit in the UK....
i think these guys made some better songs than a lot of the ones on this one(better,as in more bombastic and showy), this one is more straight rock IMO without all the bells, whistles and for the most part, less orchestrations, but still, a very good album, not only for the expansion of their musical horizons but also simplifying their rock-estra sounds of the 1970s.
