What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 19-11-2014 The Zombies ... who clearly aren't! This is from their most recent release, Breathe Out, Breathe In - What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-11-2014 BOB DYLAN "empire burlesque" cd, 1985 album stats: #33 US, #7 AU, #11 UK singles: " a tight connection to my heart".....................#103 US, #65 AU "when the night comes falling from the sky"......no chart action it was always going to be a difficult task to top his previous effort "infidels", and this, his twenty third studio album tanked with its singles really badly... the album didnt fare much better in his homeland, but fans stayed on board in Australia and in the UK.... i find this album almost unlistenable, from the dated 1980s synth-drums, through to the horrible production and over dubbing on his vocals, and even with the tunes and lyrical content... to the lyrics...this stuff had no meat attached, it was lightweight pop material, so unlike the Dylan i know and love... half the album is terrible and for themost part, the rest isnt much better... even with help from Petty's Heartbreakers playing on this one, it still sounds bad, not sure how many albums he has released that are worse than this one as i only own half of his material, but "down in the groove" makes this one sound great, and his Xmas album is pure novelty. sorry Bob but you dissapointed me big time with this release mate! I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM! worst track: clean cut kid best track: something's burning tracks: 1. tight connection to my heart ** 2. seeing the real you at last * 3. i'll remember you * 4. clean cut kid * 5. never gonna be the same again * 6. trust yourself * 7. emotionally yours ** 8. when the night comes falling from the sky ** 9. something's burning ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdMjt9BJSo4 audio 10.dark eyes ** 3s=0 2s=5 1s=5 rating: 1.5 What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 20-11-2014 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote: Have to agree - one of his worst efforts. I have the album but rarely listen to it. As you say, Infidels was always going to be a hard act to follow. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-11-2014 C'mon Music Head....your thoughts please What Are You Listening To? - Big Ears - 20-11-2014 The recent Jimmy Page remasters of Led Zeppelin's I (1969), IV (four symbols) (1971) and Houses of the Holy (1973). I am not really a Led Zeppelin fan, although Houses of the Holy is one of my favourite albums by the band (probably for the reasons it is disliked by the purists). These albums sound very clear, but the sharp production only serves to highlight their weaknesses: the tracks are too long and I lose interest halfway through each one, Page's guitar playing doesn't flow, Bonham is a distraction and Plant is too mannered. Something I did find myself listening to, on every track, was John Paul Jones's bass playing, which is dynamic, melodic and exceptional throughout. However, even my preferred tracks like The Song Remains the Same and When the Levee Breaks are a struggle. The first album has few redeeming features and I did not get as far as listening to the bonus material. Listening to these albums just made me want to hear more refined blues rock, such as that by Cream or Robin Trower. Led Zeppelin may have been hugely influential, but they are no longer listenable to these ears. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 20-11-2014 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:C'mon Music Head....your thoughts pleasemight be a sub-par Dylan album except for this track which is fantabulous What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 21-11-2014 BOB DYLAN "infidels" cd, 1983 album chart stats: #20 US, #6 AU, #9 UK singles: "union sundown"..............#90 UK "sweetheart like you"........#55 US, #74 AU "jokerman"......................no chart info(or didnt chart) Uncle Bob's twenty-second studio album....and his best IMO.... Mark Knopfler played on, and co-produced this one with Dylan, and Knopfler's guitar sound is all over this one... but originally, David Bowie,Elvis Costello, and Frank Zappa were offered the chance to work on it with him, they all turned it down, it wouldnt have been the same album with any of those guys(not saying it wouldnt have worked, they all have their individual styles, but it is Knopfler that makes the album IMO... that said,Dylan's lyrics and melodies are spot on here... Christ...the guy even sings bloody well on here also, and he's in tune all of the time... the album contains social and political rants that are concise, theres even a couple of psuedo love songs also, lovely songs. the production is spot on,just like the Dire Straits albums which shows Knopfler has a real ear for music other than his own. i really cannot fault this album at all, even the cover art(photo of Dylan) shows a 'cool' Dylan in dark shades(presumably Raybans??) by far his best album and IMO up there with the greatest albums of all time...and all this from a man some twenty years into his career!... this is the album i would recommend non Dylan fans to listen to,its pure perfection! sorry, but as usual, Dylan links are few and far between!, my favourite isnt available so maybe try "license to kill" I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: i and i best track: man of peace tracks: 1. jokerman *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XSvsFgvWr0 vevo video 2. sweetheart like you *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpRKstHl7Y0 vevo video 3. neighborhood bully *** 4. license to kill *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkEx4BDhRjw live/Letterman 1984 5. man of peace *** 6. union sundown *** 7. i and i ** 8. dont fall apart on my tonight *** 3s=7 2s=1 1s=0 rating: 2.9 What Are You Listening To? - Big Ears - 21-11-2014 Mark Knopfler made a great album with Chet Atkins in 1990. He should have done more work as a producer, but I suppose he was more interested in his own records. What Are You Listening To? - Big Ears - 21-11-2014 ^ My favourite track is their version of There'll Be Some Changes Made (which was originally published in 1921). |
