Even if it had been "Giant", i.e. just one giant, it would almost certainly have had two shoulders. Granted, you could stand on just one shoulder, but I don't believe that's normal practice.

the Oasis album title doesn't actually refer to "giants" guys,
they were at the top of their game when they released that album....
the title refers to "standing on top of the world", ie: they had "made it" in America, thus the album cover of the NY skyline...
the "giants" were the tall buildings in NYC, and obviously, when you stand on them, technically, youre standing on the shoulder.
it was actually a very clever title....
BTW, I cant remember what building the shot was taken from but the photographer captured an image every half hour for almost 24 hours (I believe),
he then exposed every frame on top of each other to create the effect on the cover, every single lifted from the album also had an image of NYC,
from memory the Empire State Building was in every picture, but from different angles (ie: nth, east, west and sth)...
as a footnote, I thought it was their weakest album, on par with their lousy third album (the one before this one), theyd got so far into booze and cocaine
after "whats the story morning glory" that the music played second fiddle to the lifestyle.

well, the cover art on this album appeared as one of around twenty shots Linda took that were featured on the inside gatefold sleeve
of the UK release of "McCartney" from 1970.

Sorry CH but you are wrong - the phrase is supposed to be - 'I can see so much further when I am standing on the shoulders of giants'. What it really means is that it is with other peoples assistance/help/guidance that I am able to achieve things.
It's got nothing to do with New York, the fact that they were at the top of their game or buildings. See below. They basically screwed up the title - pure and simple. It happens. Whoever was in charge of the album design should have been shot.
