What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-10-2012 SteveO Wrote:Dolly's a true legend in my books! Brilliant songwriter (Jolene, etc.), singer and musician!!!!! I enjoyed Nine to Five , both the song and movie! and im betting you like Anne Murray also???? LOL What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 27-10-2012 Yes Music Head , I am weird...the secret's out!!!!!! Music Head Wrote:yea but we've already established you're weird What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 27-10-2012 I like her cover of You Won't See Me by the Fab Four...in his biography, Lennon stated that it's the best Beatle cover that he has heard! Anne and John , believe it or not, were good friends as I have talked to Anne in person. She's very approachable and has a great sense of humour but I don't have any of her albums...shame on me!...lol CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:and im betting you like Anne Murray also???? LOL What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-10-2012 my dad loves Anne Murray.... i like 'snowbird' and 'a little good news', but thats about it for me. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 30-10-2012 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Hard to believe the guys still kickin' at 93. Up there with Woody as a folk icon. Never thought he was as good as Woody. If this compilation is the essential, it proves my point. Twenty three tracks here, of which only six are Seeger originals. Most well known here is Where Have All The Flowers Gone? This version doesn't even stand up to the Johnny Rivers cover. That as well as most of this album is just Pete with his banjo or guitar. A two record set and record 1 is all live with a lot of audience sing along stuff. All real low key with the participation not very enthusiastic. Record 2 is studio and only side 2 of that has the Seeger originals. A lot of tunes I don't like on the entire set and the album doesn't even get a like score. I guess I'm just not a big Pete Seeger fan even though he is a legend in the folk circles. Five covers bring this one down to just missing a love mark, still a nice score.Of those covers the only one they fail to pull of is Delta Dawn. That just shouldn't have been done. The other covers, the harmonies make them work, even the Dylan. Four love tracks with Monday Morning Secretary leading the way. Album title is a little misleading, as less than half the tracks consist of any string section, much less a symphony. Just typical Statler Brothers country on the rest. One of the few country groups that could harmonize. This was the year the group kicked off their six year run as Vocal Group of the Year by the CMA. The country charts show this album reaching #11 and singles of Monday Morning Secretary at #20, and Woman Without A Home at #29. Not that great for the Statlers. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-11-2012 ![]() BILLY BRAGG "the internationale" cd,1990. Stephen William Bragg doesnt appeal to everyone, and this one both alienated fans and gained respect from Socialists everywhere.... its a seven track album/'ep', whatever you want to call it! the songs are rooted firmly at the ideology and thinking of socialists and 'leftists'... track one was the official Soviet National Anthem until the end of WW2 and then picked up and sung by protesters in Tiananmen Square, track two is Billy's ode to folk singer Phil Ochs, track three his impressions of a book written by a USMC Major General, track four,Jerusalem is a standard Unionistic track for the oppressed working classes. track five is sung in Nicaraguan(lyric sheet in english) and is about the indian chief Dirigen who stood upto and beat the Spanish Conquistadors, track six is another Union anthem sung by the UK Trade Union movement at their conferences and finally track seven is Bragg's rendition of Eric Bogle's classic anti-war ballad "my youngest son came home today"... i dont align myself with that side of politics but i find this to be a very good concept album from a man who always puts his heart on his sleeve and practices what he preaches...long live the revolution comrade! Rodriguez, over the period of his two studio albums, was without a doubt, the only person i can honestly say is/was the equal to Bob Dylan as an observer of life, and be able to put it down on paper... and this album is the equal to bob dylan at his best(and i dont say that lightly, believe me!!!!
