RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - gryphon - 05-08-2019 (04-08-2019, 13:44)Jerome Wrote: Kids don't get their education in schools anymore. They get it via social media. And that is a really bad situation. The web is full of twisted freaks. Come to think of it, so are most of the governments of the world. We have "progressed " to a state in the world where we have very poor leadership and because of the poor educational standards many people lack the skills to judge these people and the things they say and do. These actions are seen by some in society as a green light to push and brake barriers that were taken as being the boundaries of civilized behaviour. These red lines are being crossed. The leaders in power have been placed their by people who don't question the implications of the things their leaders claim. The leaders will say anything that seems to please the people at that moment . AS a result we now have poor role models, knee jurk actions and people who lie as a way of life in charge.......The world reflects this........Sadly ...anyone who speaks and uses facts and common sense as their basis for argument, is trashed by the leaders , who do this as a policy and are cheered by non thinking poorly educated masses .......unless this changes .....things don't look good for the future....... RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-08-2019 isn't it frustrating that scientists can find an 'earth like' planet 31 light years away but still cant find MH370 here on Earth??? https://www.skynews.com.au/details/_6067821059001?utm_source=Taboola&utm_medium=Discovery&utm_campaign=Traffic RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Jerome - 05-08-2019 I agree with everything you say. As this is now reflected in the workplace as well. The ones who bullshit the most are the ones who are promoted to senior positions. They cannot see that their complete lack of management skills are leading companies down the slippery slope. There is an excuse for every wrong decision made and never any accountability. The blind leading the blind. But karma can be a real bitch sometimes. The wheel always turns and at the end of the day there is always a price to pay, often not by the people who created the problem but their successors. And the problems are driven by just two things - power and greed. Apple Inc. pulled in 150bn gross in Ireland (because Ireland is the world's biggest tax haven for big business). Tax paid - 1.7bn - less than 2%. As far as world leaders are concerned I cannot think of one that has a true vision of what needs to be done. They're all just dodging media bullets and putting out the fires they themselves created. It's a bloody circus. Incidentally, I have been to your homeland a number of times. It's one of the best run countries in the world. Japan is another. In the great financial meltdown of 2007/2008 only one country initially held their bankers responsible and sent them off to jail. Iceland. The first country to emerge intact from the crisis. Iceland. Says something about accountability. As an example, there was an article recently about a serial shoplifter in Ireland who has now accumulated over 400 convictions - not charges - convictions! Instead of the judge throwing her in jail to make her wake up she was given yet another suspended sentence. So what do you think she is going to do next? You guessed it.... RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 07-08-2019 the latest school accessory for American kids, a bullet proof back pack! https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/bullet-resistant-backpacks-have-become-another-back-to-school-staple/ar-AAFsgq4?ocid=spartandhp RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Ruby - 09-08-2019 (05-08-2019, 10:16)gryphon Wrote:(04-08-2019, 13:44)Jerome Wrote: Kids don't get their education in schools anymore. I know an elderly retired school teacher who is voluntarily teaching classes in critical thinking and philosophy at a local school - and it's changing one or two lives. Small efforts like this can have a ripple effect so there are glimmers of hope - always. Critical thinking ought to be a compulsory subject IMHO - and I think school curricula must adapt to the times. There's no going back - we need more creatives, more free thinkers and school subjects that make sense in today's world. It is happening, from what I can tell - just very slowly. And I must say, that a lot of the young people I encounter are deeply concerned about and cognizant of many issues, political and otherwise, and not least their future on this planet. Our generation has landed them with technology that none of us knows how to manage and control - hopefully there are a few bright and motivated sparks out there who'll help bring back a balance. We live in interesting times!! RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-08-2019 I just read an article about Nikki Minaj... she's gonna get married in 80 days and her soon-to-be-husband is a real catch, here's his bio: have a read of it: https://www.dreshare.com/kenneth-petty/ RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Jerome - 14-08-2019 Charming! Another perfect role model for the young kids... It's probably just all one big publicity stunt. Way of the world these days. RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-08-2019 Pandora's Box could be opened for all artists if Eminem wins this case against Spotify: https://www.msn.com/en-au/entertainment/music/eminems-music-publisher-sues-spotify-for-dollar36m-accusing-the-streaming-giant-of-infringing-copyright-on-hundreds-of-the-rappers-songs/ar-AAGbtzA?ocid=spartanntp RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Jerome - 23-08-2019 I don't sell many copies of my music (who wants to listen to an old farts fantasies anyway!) but the sales are increasing all the time, month after month. The crazy thing is that although sales are increasing the revenue stream is declining. I sold 16 copies of my albums the week before and 37 copies this week. But the amount generated this week is half of the previous week. Go figure. I don't care much for Eminem but I sure hope he wins his case. My gut feeling is that he won't. Vested interests and all that goes with it.... RE: I read the news today, oh boy! - Jerome - 06-09-2019 Mugabe dead. Quite possibly the worst politicial figure in African history. He will probably get a state burial while the country he ruined lies in tatters. Maybe now he'll get to meet all those he slaughtered over the decades. |
