PennyLane Wrote:I agree. " Money" is always played on the radio, over and over and over. Also Stairway to Heaven, overplayed. I mean, I love the song... but we get it... there are other songs. Someone play those. But radio is about playing hits, they play for people, most of the time, that only know the bands because of these hit songs. They know nothing else... so the radio plays to that.

I think the quotation at the end of your threads is brilliant.

yeah a good example is steppenwolf born to be wild which is incidentally a brilliant song but they have done so much more,or smoke on the water by deep purple, money for nothing by dire straights all of these are great songs but at the same time all of these bands have a lot more in their repertoir

I have to agree with some of you that Sweet Child O Mine by GNR is one of the overplayed songs ever. Everytime when I go to a guitar store, somebody will definitely play the intro of that song...

same goes for Warren Zevon...most people only know "werewolves of london"....yet his first four albums were sublime, with numerous tracks better than that overplayed hit single

If it's on the radio, it's overplayed! Don't mean to sound like a "negative Nancy," here, but I can't bring myself to listen to radio anymore. There are a couple college radio stations that I like because they don't stick to genre limitations, but that's about it. Rock radio has pretty much ruined a lot of great songs that I love--even though I mostly listen to rock!

That's ESPECIALLY true for Deep Purple. What a bunch of brilliant guys. So many great tunes.

Enter Sandman By Metallica may be a little overused but I would have to say it still is the best. Metallic is metallica because of that song. - Ethan
