What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 02-10-2012 Yup gotta love the Music Head !.....LOL !!!! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-10-2012 ![]() BOB DYLAN "planet waves" cd,1974. #1 US, #3 UK, #9 AU. i guess Music Head will have his up here soon...will be interesting to see how he views this generally overlooked and forgotten Dylan masterpiece.... dylan's final album with The Band... bit of acoustic stuff on here as well as 'bob goes pop'(best way i can describe some of these tracks) i hear plenty of Geroge Harrison on here...not litterately, justthe whole feel going on...best example of this is the superb opening track 'on a night like this'. no earth-shattering social commentary on this one, im guess the THC mellowed him out in this period, just some lovely tunes sung/spoken as only Dylan can... cant for the life of me see the need for two versions of 'forever young' to be put on here, even though i love both them, they come up one after the other on the cd, one version is slower with commercially sounding music the other more in the vein of Bob & The Band. orst track: hazel best track: something there is about you tracks: 1. on a night like this *** 2. going going gone ** 3. tough mama *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJHGZS-0Nlk audio 4. hazel ** 5. something there is about you *** 6. forever young *** 7. forever young *** 8. dirge ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJHGZS-0Nlk audio 9. you angel you *** 10.never say goodbye *** 11.wedding song ** 3s=7 2s=4 1s=0 rating: 2.6 What Are You Listening To? - kriscore - 09-10-2012 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 09-10-2012 ^^ how'd that get in here? oh wait, I get it, World Music Isn't every friggin song in the world, World Music wtf does that even mean? who came up with that one? hang them I say What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-10-2012 yep...thats one term i never understood neither..."world music"?????? What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 09-10-2012 from my library (cd) ![]() Hey, how did CH know I was doing a Dylan album today? I'm back in order this time, for Bob's eighth release. Last week I messed up and let Self Portrait sneak up the list. I'm ok now. This release was after the spectacular Blonde On Blonde, a hard act to follow. Pretty sure it lived up to my expectations. I could take either folk or electric Bob. This one he decided to turn it down a bit, maybe trying to reclaim some of them folkies he lost. It should have worked. It was recorded after his legendary sessions with The Band from which The Basement Tapes surfaced years later. Contains the classic All Along The Watchtower which was pretty unknown until covered by Jimi Hendrix the following year. My favorite has always been The Ballad Of Frankie Lee And Judas Priest. Up there with Dylans all time best songs for me. The moral of the song line at the end is just exceptional. Four more love tracks, making the album reach that level also. The country tinge of this album did it for me, with session men Pete Drake on steel and Charlie McCoy on bass. They are country legends if you don't know. Those are the only other musicians on this album, making this the first Dylan country album, not Nashville Skyline. The album made it to #2 U.S. and #1 U.K. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Drifters Escape Best Track - The Ballad Of Frankie Lee And Judas Priest 1) John Wesley Harding - unbelievable there is no clip for this, 2) As I Went Out One Morning ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBV6hH7pGlU 3) I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine ** 4) All Along The Watchtower *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YanjY9CsPDQ 5) The Ballad Of Frankie Lee And Judas Priest *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkVGmQqSrkY 6) Drifters Escape ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OrW3H3EBZ8 7) Dear Landlord ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8530CCpYU-0 8) I Am A Lonesome Hobo ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdIWHoPhmks 9) I Pity The Poor Immigrant *** - such a beautiful pic to look at audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR1rFeLexjQ 10) The Wicked Messenger ** 11) Down Along The Cove ** 12) I'll Be Your Baby Tonight *** - or this 3's - 5 2's - 7 1's - 0 Grade - 2.4 allmusic - 3.0 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 14-10-2012 from my library (cd) ![]() This where Bob temporarily went off track for me. Don't think he recovered until there was some Blood On The Tracks. Somebody must have knocked him silly for a few years. This is his ninth album, and the first where he was marketed on the country side. The appearance of JC on the opening track makes that clear. Many tracks were recorded with the two legends but only Girl From The North Country was included. Only three tracks I love, and the three I don't care for knock the album back down. Lyrics have to be the weakest yet for a Dylan album. Country Pie makes me cringe, but of course the instrumental Nashville Skyline Rag takes the worst. Bob had become frustrated with his success, and wanted to knock himself down. Lay Lady Lay was the single, and I was never crazy about that one either. Just an ok song for me. That was written for the film Midnight Cowboy, but was not delivered in time. Bob didn't want it released as a single, but label head Clive Davis insisted, and the song was a #7 hit here and #5 UK. The album hit #3 here and #1 there. Very short for a Dylan album at under 30 minutes. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Nashville Skyline Rag Best Track - One More Night 1) Girl From The North Country *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26oBcgkkbMw 2) Nashville Skyline Rag * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL_MebBy_mk 3) To Be Alone With You * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSpTG4VhScY 4) I Threw It All Away *** - Johnny Cash show 1969 live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww1gt6MHJRA 5) Peggy Day ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peW0XjEQm4Y 6) Lay Lady Lay ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwJiaOVEtKU 7) One More Night *** - hate when there's no clip for my fav 8) Tell Me That It Isn't True ** 9) Country Pie * 10) Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You ** 3's - 3 2's - 4 1's - 3 Grade - 2.0 allmusic - 3.0 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 14-10-2012 One of my favorite Dylan albums !
