back to Madonna....
I used to be a big fan, probably own her first ten albums on either cassette or vinyl plus "ray of light" on cd....
also own around twenty of her singles on vinyl also...
I just cant stand anything abut her or her music anymore, and because I loved "ray of light"(the album) im dreading playing it because
I probably wont like it anymore.....
cruchtime for me with Madonna was that stupid "American pie" cover, that was it,game over!

^That sums it up pretty well! Exactly what I think too. They're borrowing from all over the place - not authentic.

Gary Loizzo was born on this day in 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the lead vocalist for The American Breed who had a couple of quite big hits in the late 60’s, including “Bend Me, Shape Me”. When the band split up he started up his own recording studio, Pumpkin, and proceeded to engineer extensively, both live and in studio, for Styx. He got two Grammy nominations for engineering – for the albums Cornerstone and Kilroy Was Here. He’s also worked for REO Speedwagon, on Dennis de Young’s solo stuff, with Bad Company, and more.

This is an interview clip where he talks about his live engineering for Styx – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRxY0znZEfc

… and fronting The American Breed (can’t say for sure that I’ve ever before seen someone playing the drums and trumpet at the same time!?!) – looks like they're having fun!

Eric Johnson was born on this day in 1954, in Austin, Texas. He’s something of a virtuoso and has performed alongside Steve Vai and Satriani as G3 as well as releasing some highly acclaimed solo albums and music for video games! He’s known for coaxing amazing tones out of his guitar; he won the 1991 Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental with “Cliffs of Dover” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiRn3Zlw3Rw.

He’s been a guest on a few albums by Christopher Cross – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ2cXvPcVfY as well as appearing on plenty more – with Carole King, Steve Morse, to drop a few names!

Most recently he’s headed off in a fusion direction and released an album with the esteemed Mike Stern which they named Eclectic (which it certainly is, and very nice it is too – super sophisticated sounds from two highly skilled guitarists who know exactly what they’re doing). I particularly like this track -

1953 Kevin Rowland
lead singer with Dexy's Midnight Runners....
they released their latest album only a couple of years ago....
he is not an easy man to work with/for from all accounts....
and constant band membership changes probably go some way to proving that...
here's their first UK #1 hit from 1979ish....

Hugues Aufray was born on this day in 1929 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. According to Wiki, he began his career singing in Spanish. From what I can see online, he must have found the fountain of youth - at 86, he's not showing any signs of hanging up his plectrum! Bravo to him.

More from Wiki: “Aufray represented Luxembourg in the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, performing "Dès que le printemps revient" and finishing fourth. His most famous songs are "Santiano", "Céline", "Stewball", "Hasta luego" and in Spanish, "Barco de Papel. Aufray is well known for his French covers of Bob Dylan's songs.”

“Santianna” is a traditional English sea shanty referencing the Mexican General Santa Anna and is a somewhat inaccurate description of historical events, whereas the French language version uses the same melody but alters the lyrics. By far the best known shanty in that Gallic kingdom, Aufray recorded “Santiano” in 1961 with the lyrics having been composed by the French writer Jacques Plante. This version refers to a ship leaving Saint Malo bound for San Francisco – a place of great wealth … [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZiLKwTuvks"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZiLKwTuvks

And here’s his take on Dylan’s “Girl from the North Country” – “La Fille du Nord”
