Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-08-2015 back to Madonna.... I used to be a big fan, probably own her first ten albums on either cassette or vinyl plus "ray of light" on cd.... also own around twenty of her singles on vinyl also... I just cant stand anything abut her or her music anymore, and because I loved "ray of light"(the album) im dreading playing it because I probably wont like it anymore..... cruchtime for me with Madonna was that stupid "American pie" cover, that was it,game over! Born on this day ... - Ruby - 16-08-2015 ^That sums it up pretty well! Exactly what I think too. They're borrowing from all over the place - not authentic. Gary Loizzo was born on this day in 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the lead vocalist for The American Breed who had a couple of quite big hits in the late 60âs, including âBend Me, Shape Meâ. When the band split up he started up his own recording studio, Pumpkin, and proceeded to engineer extensively, both live and in studio, for Styx. He got two Grammy nominations for engineering â for the albums Cornerstone and Kilroy Was Here. Heâs also worked for REO Speedwagon, on Dennis de Youngâs solo stuff, with Bad Company, and more. This is an interview clip where he talks about his live engineering for Styx â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRxY0znZEfc Tommy Shaw belting out âBlue Collar Manâ â the post DeYoung lineup â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waTzikKLgno ⦠and fronting The American Breed (canât say for sure that Iâve ever before seen someone playing the drums and trumpet at the same time!?!) â looks like they're having fun! Born on this day ... - Ruby - 17-08-2015 Eric Johnson was born on this day in 1954, in Austin, Texas. Heâs something of a virtuoso and has performed alongside Steve Vai and Satriani as G3 as well as releasing some highly acclaimed solo albums and music for video games! Heâs known for coaxing amazing tones out of his guitar; he won the 1991 Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental with âCliffs of Doverâ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiRn3Zlw3Rw. Heâs been a guest on a few albums by Christopher Cross â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ2cXvPcVfY as well as appearing on plenty more â with Carole King, Steve Morse, to drop a few names! Most recently heâs headed off in a fusion direction and released an album with the esteemed Mike Stern which they named Eclectic (which it certainly is, and very nice it is too â super sophisticated sounds from two highly skilled guitarists who know exactly what theyâre doing). I particularly like this track - Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 17-08-2015 1953 Kevin Rowland lead singer with Dexy's Midnight Runners.... they released their latest album only a couple of years ago.... he is not an easy man to work with/for from all accounts.... and constant band membership changes probably go some way to proving that... here's their first UK #1 hit from 1979ish.... Born on this day ... - Ruby - 18-08-2015 Hugues Aufray was born on this day in 1929 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. According to Wiki, he began his career singing in Spanish. From what I can see online, he must have found the fountain of youth - at 86, he's not showing any signs of hanging up his plectrum! Bravo to him. More from Wiki: âAufray represented Luxembourg in the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, performing "Dès que le printemps revient" and finishing fourth. His most famous songs are "Santiano", "Céline", "Stewball", "Hasta luego" and in Spanish, "Barco de Papel. Aufray is well known for his French covers of Bob Dylan's songs.â âSantiannaâ is a traditional English sea shanty referencing the Mexican General Santa Anna and is a somewhat inaccurate description of historical events, whereas the French language version uses the same melody but alters the lyrics. By far the best known shanty in that Gallic kingdom, Aufray recorded âSantianoâ in 1961 with the lyrics having been composed by the French writer Jacques Plante. This version refers to a ship leaving Saint Malo bound for San Francisco â a place of great wealth ⦠https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZiLKwTuvks And hereâs his take on Dylanâs âGirl from the North Countryâ â âLa Fille du Nordâ Born on this day ... - Music Head - 19-08-2015 Johnny Nash - born on this day in 1940 in Texas that would make him 75 his #1, from 1972 Born on this day ... - Ruby - 19-08-2015 Ian Gillan turns 70 today. He is from Chiswick, London. Primarily known as Deep Purpleâs lead vocalist/lyricist, heâs actually released more albums in the name of the Ian Gillan Band, and solo (collectively). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Gillan From Ian Gillan Bandâs Child in Time â a different version of âChild in Timeâ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts8oj7LJsyU From Ian Gillanâs One Eye to Morocco - the title track - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mexqmfd-TLU And from Gillan & Gloverâs Accidentally on Purpose - their cover of âLonely Avenueâ, that appeared on the soundtrack of Rain Man - Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-08-2015 Robert Plant 1948 singer with Led Zeppelin who had the 1969 US No.4 single Whole Lotta Love. The bands fourth album released in 1971 featuring the rock classic Stairway To Heaven has sold over 37 million copies. Plant had the 1983 solo hit single Big Log. Also a member of The Honeydrippers, (with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck & Nile Rodgers), who had the 1984 US No.3 single Sea Of Love.
