What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-09-2012 Jerome Wrote:I really have to get to the States some day. Been on the to do list for years. Leaving for Croatia and Malta on Monday. Going sailing around the islands in Croatia. Can't wait. Malta is beautiful Jerome...well, it was many moons ago when i was there What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-09-2012 some nice performances on that Nitty Gritty Dirt Band one MH, i should really get some of their material(always liked them, just never bothered to do so) What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 23-09-2012 from my library (vinyl) ![]() A one hit wonder, maybe one and a half. Boots, and the duo with daddy. In fact that first album was the only one to even make the top 10. This is her fourth album and only made #43. She traded in her go-go boots for cowboy boots on this one. It is country and not sure if she made another geared to that market. Maybe not since this one didn't do well. Did fine for me though, with some fine song choices done true to the originals. Five love tracks and nothing I don't like. Leading the pack is an original by partner Lee Hazlewood, By The Way. Of course there's no clip for that one. Lee also produced the album, and performs on Jackson, which doesn't quite measure up to the Cash/Carter version but it will do. It was the only charting single making #14 on the pop charts. Skeeter Davis's End Of The World is equal to the original. Covers of Don Gibson, Hank Cochran and Bill Anderson classics. The album may not have sold well, but it would probably be her finest effort for me. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Help Stamp Out Loneliness Best Track - By The Way (I Still Love You) 1) It's Such A Pretty World Today *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4X8VfMFXqU 2) Get While The Gittin's Good ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEFbSzqAmNQ 3) Walk Through This World With Me *** 4) Jackson ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnkuRQ8tjIE 5) When It's Over *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqp4zyQtjjk 6) Lay Some Happiness On Me ** 7) Lonely Again ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVowHbhhskc 8) By The Way (I Still Love You) *** 9) Oh Lonesome Me ** 10) End Of The World *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r_gTErYm-w 11) Help Stamp Out Loneliness ** 3's - 5 2's - 6 1's - 0 Grade - 2.5 allmusic - 2.4 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-09-2012 ![]() JONI MITCHELL "blue" cd,1971. Joni's fourth album, a bit of help on here from Stephen Stills and James Taylor... for some reason Joni never quite got me where she should have(metaphorically speaking of course)... always found her vocals, although haunting and emotive in places, to be quite annoying at times also, thus the annoying ones on here, i do not like! she does however, tell some lovely stories even if her delivery style is a bit off-beat to me(i dont know, maybe thats the way she rolls?!) very sparse, mournful, yearning, longing sounds in her voice here, much like Laura Marling(whom i love),yet not with Joni...go figure that one out. this album ranks #30 on Rolling Stone's top500 albums of all time, not sure i'd put it in a top 1000, but who the hell am i to say whats right or wrong in music when i cant beat MH or TraceNspace in songpop... i guess its not a bad album but not one id go crazy about. Faster stuff reminds me of Alabamas attempts, slower stuff is closer to Eagles country sounds, meaning some nice harmonies. Last album was in 2004, so I guess they've hung it up, at least until they run out of money. Seven albums released of which this is the third. They did experience some success with four gold albums out of the seven, this one reaching #4 on the country charts. The one previous to this making #1. This is the only one I own. It slips into the like range, liking six of the nine tracks. Slower ones work the best. Four singles were released of which all went top 10 country, and The Bluest Eyes In Texas and A Tender Lie both reaching #1, the latter being my favorite. Surprised to see the group fared as well as they did, but I have never been a modern country fan. Then again, when it's all mediocre, something has to rise to the top. CRAZY-HORSE Wrote: What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 01-10-2012 from my library (cd) You guys all know I'm a big fan of this band, but this really should have been pared down. Over 70 minutes and 20 tracks is a bit much. I guess it's the first Avett's album I don't love. It helps that my favorite of Salvation Song is near the end. That sort of picked me up. Two unlisted hidden tracks on my copy. They didn't hide them very good. I found them right at the end where they usually put the hidden ones. The title comes from an English yacht that sunk back in the day. No idea what that has to do with anything on the album. I kept waiting for a ship song but it never came up, unless it's that track 17 rubbish. Four tracks I love and two I don't like. Not counting the closer of bs talking for under 1 minute. More than 1 minute of boring me with it though and you get a penalty as with the worst, Causey Commentary. Never understand why they put crap like that on an album.
