RE: Currently Watching? - Jerome - 26-12-2020

I am seldom shocked by anything anymore but this one chilled me to the bone. The Catholic Church has an awful lot to answer for. What Jean Hargadon and others went through is simply inexcusable. On Netflix - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6792200/

RE: Currently Watching? - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-12-2020

^^
sounds very interesting
i'll give it a go during the week mate.

on a similar note my car mechanic many moons ago was brought out here from the UK and sent to a Christian Brothers boarding house back in the 1960s (which i wasnt aware of initially)
was picking my car up from him one when the news came on the radio.
apparently the Government were opening up an enquiry (mid 1980s) into abuse by the Catholic Church 'brothers'.
my mechanic told me then that he was at Clontarf back then but he was one of the lucky ones because the christian Brothers considered him 'too ugly to ____".
over the next couple of years he told me some harrowing stories of the abuse he witnessed on a nightly basis etc etc...
he was eventually called in to testify against several members of the Clergy.
he said he had nightmares to that day over the things he heard in the 'dead of night'
he eventually hung himself in the mid 1990s as all of the attention in the media, the dredging up things he was trying to forget etc was too much to take. he said the mental abuse he suffered hearing things was just as bad as the sexual/physical abuse others suffered.
RIP mate.

RE: Currently Watching? - Ruby - 26-12-2020

^^Dreadful - so sad. The nuns were also wicked, as is evident in Philomena, which I watched fairly recently - with Judi Dench. Based on the true story of a remarkable woman who suffered unspeakable cruelty in the name of piety - so sick. And she wasn't the only one.

basically a modern take on the brilliant Mel Gibson movie "what women want"

Rating  2.5/5

as a footnote:
it appears Mel Gibson is in the process of making a period movie about the Vikings entitled "beserkers", dialogue is supposedly to be in the dialogue of the day (sort of like Passion Of The Christ).
Wiki says Leonardo Di Caprio was slated to star in it at one point.
im guessing that if it is too be authentic then it will be rated R for sure.

im four episodes in Jerome.
episode 2 was absolutely chilling with the women giving graphic details of their abuse.
the thing that is most shocking so far is that at some point this would have happened in just about every Catholic orphanage or boarding school the world over and they still show no compassion or remorse to their victims to this day yet shield the Priests from prosecution.
a bloody disgrace.

but its not exclusive to the Catholics, the Anglicans (C of E) are almost as bad.
my dad worked on a house owned by an Anglican Priest from Indonesia a decade or so ago.
anyway, i helped him out on a couple of days with some awkward work and met the Priest and his wife.
something didnt sit right with me but i didnt say anything to my Dad at the time.
a couple of years later he left the church and rumours started circulating that he was removed for "innapropriate behaviour with female parishoners"
it has since emerged that he had been 'moved on' from other appointments for the same behaviour.
he apparently ended up back in Indonesia and out of the reach of Australian authorities.

the biggest problem is not what he supposedly did but why the Church just moved him on to possibly allegedly re-offend instead of acting upon the allegations.
theyre just as guilty as he possibly is/was IMO.

Grrrr!
the whole subject just makes me so angry as i was always told that people should expect to feel safest in four places inparticular:
:home
school
:hospitals/medical care
:church

back to The Keepers.
will finish it tomorrow probably, im keen to find out its conclusion.

BTW
watching some Benny Hill at the moment to lighten the mood a bit.

Wiki:  The Keepers - Wikipedia

seven episodes, each approx: 1 hour.

well that was harrowing!
a rollercoaster of emotion and coverup from the get-go.
Agatha Christie couldnt have written a crime thriller with more twists or turns
Stephen King couldnt have written anything this horrific...

starts off with the murder of a Nun in 1969 in Baltimore.
quickly escalates into the Nun looking into the sexual abuse of female pupils by Catholic Priests prior to her murder.
subsequent Police investigation and cover up by the Catholic Church and their intimidation of victims.
goes into the disappearance of files/documents from the Baltimore Police Dept and possible involvement in the corruption by the Baltimore Prosecuter who had links within the Church...

excellent, excellent documentary well worth watching
thanks for the recommendation Jerome, great stuff!

oh and BTW: abuse and coverups within the Catholic Church are a bigger pandemic than Covid will ever be IMO.

on Netflix:

labelled horror
i call it horrifically bad...
not even a b-grade horror
bad acting...
had potential to be half decent but failed miserably
i kept waiting for it to 'go somewhere' and 'do something' but alas...
