ReMastered: The Lion's Share

Netflix doco:

follows one South African man's quest to seek out the repatriation of royalties to the family of back musician Solomon Linda's family for "the lion sleeps tonight" which he first wrote and performed under its Zulu name "mbube" back in 1939.

Haunting Of Hill House (one season series)

Netflix series based on the 1959 novel of the same name.

lots of excellent reviews and comments online about this thriller of five siblings and their experiences living in the fictional Hill House as juveniles until they fled as a family.

i made it through two episodes and gave up.
i just couldnt get in to it at all
it just didnt seem to be going anywhere
no thrills, scares, jumpy moments, sort of like Hitchcock without Hitchcock LOL.

theres a second series called Haunting of Bly Manor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Haunting_of_Bly_Manor
same actors, different characters.
thats what happened with American Horror Story (that was a great concept, seems old hat when others do it).

anyway Hill House did nothing for me.

rating: 1/5 (on what i saw)

on Netflix:

comedy starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin,
superb sopporting cast of Ann Margaret, Christopher Lloyd and Matt Dillon.

basic plot, three old guys have no monetary stability and hatch a plan to set themselves up for life and for the future of their famillies by robbing a bank. lots of laughs and stupidy throughout.
movie falls flat towards the end but overall, not bad.

POMPEII: Mysteries At The Museum. documentary,

many years ago, around '74-'75 our class went on a day trip to The British Museum in London.
the purpose was an exhibition from Pompeii 79AD.
i was mesmerised by it all from thecolours of tiles/murals through to the carbonised bodies of those who died etc etc.

so fast forward to the present late afternoon and im watching a doco on the diggings at Pompeii.
had no idea that archeologists are still uncovering the ruins and the fact they believe that 1/3 of the city is still waiting to be discovered.

a visit to Pompeii and ultimately walking through the ruins is on my bucket list.

(Jerome, dont tell me youve been there mate as i will be so jealous/envious of you).

I have been to Pompeii. It's right around the corner from my favourite spot in the world, which is the Amalfi Coast. Been there many times - Amalfi Coast, that is. Was in Pompeii once and walked up Vesuvius. Hint - don't do it on a windy day like I did - there was dust everywhere. Quite an interesting experience. It seems very strange to walk around a city that was once a bustling place but is now eerily silent. Lots of sexual imagery on the walls all over the place - the Italians had a rather jaundiced view of their sexual prowess! Well worth a visit but I have to say I found Egypt far more interesting. But you will be fascinated by the ruins. 2nd hint - put Pink Floyd ' Echoes' on the earphones when you do.

An if you are ever there go into the centre of Naples and try the local pizza. You will be blown away.

RE: Currently Watching? - CRAZY-HORSE - 17-10-2020

just about every Italian male i have ever known thinks they have a prowess unmatched by anyone. i guess nothing's changed in 2000 years.

Oh and BTW.....JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Netflix series.

difficult to explain but Wiki describes it best...British dystopian Sci-Fi inspired by Twilight Zone.

each episode is a stand alone story.

three episodes in so far, im liking what i see.

RE: Currently Watching? - Jerome - 25-10-2020

Watched a fascinating program on the box last night called 'Zero Days'. All about the now famous Stuxnet virus/worm that was allowed to self-replicate all over the world. The Americans and the Israelis came up with this one to neutralize Iran's attempt to create an atomic bomb. The virus basically hid in the CPU of the PLC's controlling the plant - it fed false information to the SCADA systems that the technicians use to control the plant. It was telling them that everything was OK but it was systematically destroying the core components in the plant (centrifuges). Bloody clever. First decent program they have had on TV for ages.

RE: Currently Watching? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-10-2020

sounds like something for me to watch this week Jerome.

Wild Argentina

nature doco on Nat Geo Wild but not Attenborough.
i knew it was a rugged and wild part of the world down there near Cape Horn but still in awe at the animals that not only live there but thrive in that harshest of harsh environment.

Jerome, i would have thought Patagonia with its mountains etc would have been right up your alley mate, have you been there?
