BOB DYLAN "nashville skyline" cd,1969.
Bob's nineth studio album....
as the title suggests....Bob goes 'country' here, he also actually tries to sing like a normal vocalist!!!!!
im not a huge Dylan fan, but i do have probably 12-15 albums in my collection as a guess, and i am a huge Johnny Cash fan...really thought a duet between these two 'giants' of music would have been better than the opening track here....i simply dont like the song,never have,probably never will...
also interesting to note is that track two is an instrumental...not very often Dylan hasnt got anything to say about something,LOL, i also like that track.
strangely enough, none of the ten tracks exceed four minutes here, another rarity for Dylan.
'lay lady lay' was the huge hit off this one,the rest of the album has a similar feel to that track,and although i do love that one, there are a couple of tracks i like better here, and although the album scores reasonably good, i much prefer His Bobness being Bob with his harmonica,nasally vocals and off-beat,off-tune style.
i still have three albums waiting in the current pile of 'to play' discs, so i guess between MH and myself there'll be a few Dylan posts over the next few weeks(or months in MH's case LOL)
and im sure when it comes out in Music Head's rotation it will score a lot better than my effort,as the Dylan Maestro will put me in my place!
good to see half an album of links for Dylan...he usually has very few on youtube, but darn it!...not one for my favourite track!

Johnny wanted to release a double album of his gospel favorites. Long time label Columbia wouldn't go for it. Johnny
persisted and signed a one album deal with Cachet Records. This would be the mans 63rd album. Around half of these
tunes are Cash originals and those are most of the best. Love 6 of the 20 tracks, with 2 bombs. Some guest spots
with Carter family members, Rosanne Cash and Rodney Crowell. Columbia eventually re-released this, after seeing
there was some chart success of course. It made #43 on the country charts. Not great by Johnny Cash standards, but
considering it's a gospel album, that's not bad. Standout for me is the leadoff Wings In The Morning, for which
there's a classic live clip for. Don't have much Johnny gospel to compare with, but I think this album would hold up
amongst them.

PATRICK WATSON - Adventures In Your Own Backyard (2012)

Heralded as one of the top Canadian singer songwriters of the day, Patrick Watson is difficult to nail down genre wise. He combines folk and alternative with lavish orchestrations on this album. His falsetto voice brings a laid back mood to the album which I enjoy.

Love this guys voice. Can't say that for this album. Not sure when the decision was made to give the brothers equal
billing. First albums were just billed as Larry Gatlin. Think his two brothers were on in those days also. That was
the mid 70's and this is mid 80's with his 11th album. Once again an artist promoted as country that has just as
much a pop feel for me. There are a couple on here that would pass for country. Nothing I love though with 7 of the
10 getting a passing grade. Looking at the chart figures, this is Larry's 4th highest coming in at #9, with 3
singles released, highest being Houston at #1. Favorite for me is Denver which was a #7. Larry is still out there
jumping minor labels, most recent being in 2009. Hasn't charted since '89. Keep on truckin' Larry.

JESSICA LEA MAYFIELD "tell me" cd,2011.
they,the allmusic pro's, call her a folk artist...not so sure about that tag as its not folk as i would call folk, probably somewhere between that and easy listening i guess???
but now i contradict that statement saying she is vaguely similar to Laura Marling...not with the sparse acoustics, but more-so with the deep,dark subject matter of loneliness,dispair,lost relationships, her vocals dont seem have that yearning/fragility that Laura possesses in her vocal quality but a good listen none-the-less IMO.
an all-round good collection of songs from this Ohio lass and stupid me, i forgot to write down my favourite and least favourite tracks, and none jump out at me now neither, so i guess they are all on par with eachother, and the rating of each track backs that one up with every track scoring "**".
found a couple of good solid live performance links here...well worth watching IMO!!!!

sort of like the Jessica Lea Mayfield post i just did....pretty hard to call it folk,pop or alternative, and like Jessica's album, nice and laid back, i will almost certainly have this this one on my end of year purchase list, i think!?!?

BELLAMY BROTHERS "the best of the best" cd,1993
best of set from these cattle farming brothers from West Florida...didnt know they had cattle farms in Florida(see, you learn something everyday here at MD!)
this set takes in a selection of singles from 'let your love flow' from 1976, through to the early 1990s...
a couple of great tunes on here, a couple of bad ones also, with the vast majority just simply average...
they call these guys country...they aint my definition of country..more pop than country or crossover to say the least!
just an average band/duo IMO, with some nice laid-back easy listening pop tunes, i see they are still going, with a Gospel album released in the US within the last couple of weeks, so pretty hard to knock their committment to music!
