What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 05-04-2014

Jon and Vangelis - Chronicles - a kind of best of - infectious album - no great musical performances (technically speaking) but a great musical collaboration - in this case the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

I LOVE Not Dark Yet! The entire album is very good...thanks for the share Crazy!

BOB DYLAN "time out of mind" cd,1997

career stats:
studio albums: 35
singles: 58

this album: #10 US, #24 AU, #10 UK

singles:
"not dark yet".....no chart action anywhere
"lovesick"...........#64 UK

almost at the end of the xmas giftcard purchases now(only a handful to go!)
Daniel Lanois produced this one...enough said IMO, i dont like his production work on anything ive heard from any artist(including Neil Young)
studio album #30 starts off okay with "lovesick" which has a bit of a Knopfler solo feel going on, then on to the rockabilly of track #2's "dirt road blues"...
from there on in its pretty predictable Dylan from that 1990s period of his career.
overall lyrical content is pretty second rate for a Dylan album, his vocals are okay though.
onlly one track really stands out for me off this one and its the beautiful ballad "make you feel my love".
theres actually three tracks on here that im not keen on which is rare for me with a Dylan album.
allmusic rate this one a converted 2.7...either the pro's were smoking something illegal when they rated this one or i am way off with my score!

I own this one...Sate of Independence is very good! Are there other collaborations of artist and composer that you know of Jerome?

I probably have quite a few but can't think of them straight off the top of my head. Have about 3 or 4 of Jon & Vangelis.

There are also some really good collaborations between Yes and various other artists. I have a disc called 'Yes - Friends and Relatives' - made up of 2 CD's - like quite a few of the tracks on that one. - here's one - http://youtu.be/mSCbT7mnngE

I was into these guys for awhile. Think I have 5 of their first 6 albums on vinyl, skipped a few, then tried Power, then quit. Worthy of a cd
compilation though. This '99 reissue of the original '84 album gives me 2 bonus tracks, one of which provided the worst track. I keep telling
them, knock off the bonus shit. From the chart action, looks like the UK never latched on to this band but Canada liked them. Actually thought
the band had more/bigger hits than what is listed above and they didn't have any after this best of set. More of an album band I guess, into
those long jams. Those 2 singles made them huge and the band is still touring even though their last album was in 2000. Rock On.

Not big on Irish music or any of the artists emanating from these gloomy isles with the exception of Thin Lizzy and Enya - for different reasons. Been here 14 years and still waiting for ONE hot day with real BLUE skies - it is not to be. However here is one ray of light in the otherwise all-pervasive greyness that is so indicative of the weather in this country. Van Morrison - Avalon Sunset. Some amazing stuff on this. I remember first hearing this at a barbecue in Cape Town, South Africa. We were all sitting around the pool on an idyllic day and everyone just drifted off to this amazing album. Everyone just tuned in. One of those rare moments in life. Will never forget it.
