Bob's second release and the U.S. decided to get on board. Charting in the U.K. with his debut, it was ignored here.
Not this one though, Blowin In The Wind took care of that. Coming right around the birth of the civil rights
struggle for blacks here, that tune is forever tied to that. Plenty more politically flavored tracks here making Bob
known as a protest singer. He never cared for the label much, but I did. I was beginning my own little protest
period, parental rebellion and all. Dylan was what I needed, someone to make me think. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall
was always my favorite, with Blowin' In The Wind a close second. Once again, unbelievably there is not a clip for a
Dylan classic with Hard Rain. There is one, but it's from that Rolling Thunder tour, and he butchers his own song,
so I'm not posting it. Five more love tracks, with just one that never caught on, Bob Dylan's Blues. That one's hard
for me to listen to. Bob let his writing talents take over on this one after the debut of mostly covers. All but two
here are originals. England still setting the pace as this was a #1 there, with a #22 showing in the states.

I know she's technically pop, but she's also country ... got some Taylor Swift playing now

What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 31-08-2012

i have three maybe four Taylor Swift albums(pretty sure its three?)...i like her, shes a reasonably good writer and singer...
and yes,H'man there are glimpses of country in her songs, but i refer to her as a 'pop' singer...anyway, who cares what they call her, she aint too bad eh?

Merle had 38 number one country hits. Quite a record. Heyday was the late 60's, early 70's. Always wanted Merle and
Loretta to record together, like George & Tammy. Nice compilation here which scores an easy love rating. Of course
we could always use more with an artist who stuck it our for this long. Many Merle tracks I love that are not on
this set, If We Make It Through December was always one of my favorites. But it does have the biggest hits. Here's
the thing about this album. Even though it got a love rating from me, Haggard purists had to be pissed. Most of
these are not the original recordings. The trained ear (mine), can tell. Thirteen of the 16 tracks here were re-
recorded in 1994. Whether it was for this specific album I don't know. In that respect this album would get a big
thumbs down. If you want the originals, this is not the album to get. The songs are not changed dramatically, just
little subtle things. Buyer beware with this one. If I had a redo I'd go with another. But what the hell, it's
Merle, I love it.

ANGUS STONE "broken brights" cd,2012.

Angus is one half of the brother/sister folk duo 'angus & julia stone' from right here in Australia...
in the space of around eight years they have managed to release about eight albums either together, with side groups, or solo and theyve won something like seven or eight ARIA's over that time also(our equivelant of Grammys/Brits)...this is Angus' first true solo outing...
and what a release it is, pretty much had this one playing in my car for the last three weeks, just cant get enough of it...hearing something different in the lyrics or the overall sound everytime!
some real cryptic lyrics at times and sounding a lot like Bob Dylan vocally on a lot of tracks(not intentionally though, that is just his style), my favourite track here, "only a woman" has the same feel as Dylans 'knockin in heavens door',including the female angelic backing vocals.
Angus has a distinct nasally vocal quality and i even lean towards Cohen influences also...which is,again, why Music Head would love and appreciate this one.
the only track on here i do not like is the 'bonus' track at the end....its a cover of the Turtles hit 'happy together'....stupid track, just doesnt fit in with the rest of the album in anyway whatsoever.
i have only lent my my mum three albums to listen to this year...this one,Springsteen's and the Rodriguez soundtrack album...she loves all three of them, and she is a big Dylan fan also.
just as i predict Springsteen's 'wrecking ball; will win several Grammy's at the next award night, this one will win several ARIA's next time around...a truly future classic album IMO.

This was it for me. I had an american music idol. I was in for the long haul. Yes I was sucked in to the british
invasion thing, so I owe my love of music to that. But this was my very first album purchase, at the age of 15. I
was probably late to arrive. Would have thought I would have got a Beatles or Stones. Think I had heard The Times
They Are A-Changina few days before, and was blown away. So, music can be about more than just love. This is the
album I drove my parents insane with. They put me in a basement room after this. Thanks guys. Soon went back to
purchase Bob's first two albums and I was hiding in my room, safe within my womb, I touch no one and no one touches
me. This is the music that made my brain shift gears. I'm sure the title track here was my favorite for years. Now
I'm at With God On Our Side. Just brilliant in it's simplicity and to the point message. I could go on forever with
this review and relive my life through Dylan albums, but that would make it more like a blog.

would be a tough call for me between your favourite and 'pawn in their game' as best track from this album
